Intel are gearing up to release their Bay Trail-T processors at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, likely on September 11. The chips are the next generation of Atom tablet CPUs, following from Saltwell-based Clover Trail processors seen in a range of recent Windows 8 (and some Android) devices.
According to VR-Zone, who have obtained information relating to Intel's Bay Trail-T launch, the family will come with four models. The Z3770 and Z3740 are the high-end SKUs designed for high-density displays, as both can support up to 2560 x 1600 panels and come with 17.1 GB/s of memory bandwidth over up to 4 GB of dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM. THe Z3770 is clocked at 2.4 GHz while the Z3740 is 1.8 GHz, both with four 22nm Silvermont cores and 2 MB of L2 cache.
The other two chips, the Z3770D and Z3740D are similar to their non-D counterparts - they're clocked at 2.4 GHz and 1.8 GHz respectively across four cores - but we're seeing less memory bandwidth (10.6 GB/s over up to 2 GB of single-channel DDR3L-RS RAM) and a lower maximum display resolution of 1920 x 1200.
All Bay Trail-T chips will use Intel's HD Graphics GPU, although no information was specified about exactly what HD Graphics core we are looking at. Previous Atom tablet processors used a PowerVR SGX GPU, but we're likely looking at an Ivy Bridge 4000 series HD Graphics chip here, which supports DirectX 11.
VR-Zone's information lists an "SDP", or a Scenario Design Point, which doesn't reveal the maximum power drawn or cooling power required (the TDP of a chip), instead attempting to state the power usage during regular operation with fluctuating clock speeds. How much power these chips actually use will remain to be seen.
Expect more information about these chips and potentially some details about devices they'll be in during Intel's San Francisco Developer Forum from September 10-12.
