Public Interest Registry’s 2017 Internet 101 Survey results are in and you may be surprised by just how many people lack basic knowledge about the Internet. Although it's easy to point fingers at older generations over their perceived lack of technical prowess, it is actually baby boomers that scored highest in a number of areas.

Looking at the infographic below, we see that only 47 percent of people currently have access to the web. Of those who do have access, many rely solely on cellular networks or low-speed connections. Try taking the quiz for yourself to see how you fit in.

The survey included feedback from 506 men and 508 women, all over 18 years of age. Public Interest Registry is a non-profit group responsible for operating the .org top-level domain name. Some of their main goals are educating the public and promoting Internet security.

And your surprised by this? Don't you ever watch the news when they try to find ANYONE on the street who knows who the Speak of the House or the Secretary of Energy is? I mean really!!!!!!

"Although it's easy to point fingers at older generations".
Relatively speaking that's true but don't fool yourself for a second by generalising, if it wasn't for a lot of old geezers we wouldn't have what we have today. A lot of old timers still exist today that will run rings around a lot of youngsters that consider themselves tech savvy.

This is clearly biased, why would anyone need to know what http stands for? As long as people know that anything they need secured should always be through https that's good enough.

Also, what difference it makes when the www was "born"? The "ol'goofs" were already around and millennials weren't, wow very much info, this was almost a revolution of stuff happening that I believe had a huge impact at the time.

The info graphic is also showing the same question with different data in the graphs.

This looks and feels like number manipulation for shock value. for what reason? there is alot of misperception about technology in general, but pretty sure most people understand its not magic. It would be nice if everyone knew everything about all the technologies they used, but holy poop, no one would ever get out of school. a working knowledge is good nuf
