Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5S could be available with a new 128GB storage option and a gold color scheme. The capacity boost would match the one the company made to the fourth generation iPad earlier this year according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
A golden iPhone would join the traditional black and white/silver color schemes that are currently available for the iPhone 5. Parts for a gold colored phone first leaked onto the web in June although we’ve yet to see solid evidence of a golden chassis.
Elsewhere, Kuo believes Apple will go with a new A7 SoC with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The chip would be Apple’s own design and based on the ARMv8 architecture which could increase efficiency by as much as 20 percent. Apple is said to be able to get away with just 1GB of RAM because they control both the operating system and the hardware for the highest level of optimization.
The rear camera of the phone is also getting a boost. The sensor will remain the same but the lens assembly will be improved to use a larger f/2.0 aperture alongside dual LED flashes. The larger aperture will allow more light to hit the sensor and improve low-light images.
According to Kuo, the rumored fingerprint reader is the real deal and will likely be embedded in a sapphire glass home button.
Apple is expected to unveil the next iPhone as well as a cheaper model tentatively known as the iPhone 5C at a media event on September 10. A revised iPad mini and a smartwatch could also show up on stage but don’t hold your breath here.
