Is it just me or am I replacing my WD HDD every year?

My storage drive has always been a Western Digital 1Tb. But This is my second drive in 2 years that's gone out. So am I the only one saying westerd digitals are no good? Or am I delusional and the problem is really my motherboard?

Now I can hear the WD ticking every couple of seconds. I was actually able to get 450Gb off to another drive. I'm not sure about the internals of the drive, but that ticking sounds like the final countdown.

Your motherboard doesn't control head travel (or any mechanical movement for that matter) in an IDE/SATA drive. The controller for that is integrated on the drive. So if you are hearing click noises from your drive, it is the drive having read and write issues. It is possible a format may help, but don't hold your breath.
