Is there any way to delete messages in messenger on Facebook?

I have accidentally posted a message before I was finished typing it. I was not able to delete it after it was posted.

There should be a cog (gear like emblem) next to each friends name. The options listed when clicking the cog will allow for deletion of all messages associated for each friend.

Actually I had the same situation so following @cliffordcooley suggestion, go into messenger of said person, left click gear & in the drop down menu it "SHOULD' show delete message, click it & it should be gone. Mine vanished
