July brings lower-than-expected revenue for mobo makers

July proved to be a tough month for motherboard manufacturers, with most reporting lower-than-expected revenue according to DigiTimes. Gigabyte witnessed a healthy 44.4% sequential growth thanks to strong demand in China (still a 12.95% drop YOY), shipping 1.75 to 1.85 million motherboards and 200,000 to 250,000 graphics cards. Other big names didn't fare quite as well.

Asus saw an 11.83% sequential growth with revenue of $727 million, and although that's not a loss, it's supposedly less than the company predicted. The Taiwanese electronics maker shipped 10.4 million motherboards in the first half of 2010, with a goal of moving 25 million for the entire year -- a target that'll be tough to hit, according to DigiTimes.

Meanwhile, Pegatron's revenue slipped 26.7% on year with falling motherboard and notebook shipments, but was up 2.4% from the month prior. MSI's revenue was down 14.81% from the year-ago period, and 4.46% on month. ECS experienced a similar 22.69% and 3.85% dip.

The world's "disposable income" has to run out at some point. Did the manufacturer's earnings projections take into account that, believe it or not, people buy other things than computer parts...?
