In a nutshell: Keanu Reeves is up there with Henry Cavill as one of the internet’s most beloved celebrities. He’s been hitting the headlines again recently thanks to the upcoming The Matrix Resurrections and that Unreal Engine 5 demo. In a recent interview with The Verge, Reeves revealed his skepticism of NFTs and that he’s never actually played Cyberpunk 2077, even though CD Projekt Red once claimed otherwise.

Reeves was being interviewed alongside Matrix star Carrie-Ann Moss about how the real and virtual worlds are becoming ever more interconnected—as well as the movies and the tech demo, of course.

One of the first subjects the pair are asked about is the metaverse. Reeves responds with “Can we just not have metaverse be invented by Facebook?” correctly noting that the concept is “way older”—the term was coined by author Neal Stephenson in his 1992 book Snow Crash.

Segueing onto cryptocurrency, Keanu says that a friend bought some for him a while ago, but he doesn’t do anything with it. A HODLer, then. But it seems NFTs are less appealing to the actor, who laughed at the idea of digital ownership when the contents can be “easily reproduced.”

Keanu was also smiling when informed that his Cyberpunk 2077 character, Johnny Silverhand, was the one most people wanted to have in-game sex with. CD Projekt Red actually banned a mod that allowed this behavior (kind of). Reeves seemed quite happy to hear about it all. “Oh my god, it’s always nice, when it’s nice, and…y’know,” he said, though Carrie-Ann Moss was less enthusiastic. “I, on the other hand, say ‘No thank you! No thank you.’ Keanu’s fine with it…”

What might come as a surprise to some is Reeves admitting he doesn’t play video games, even Cyberpunk 2077, which he’s only seen in demonstrations. That’s a little different from what CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński said last November when asked if Reeves had played the game. “Yes. Yes. He played the game. But as far as I know haven't finished yet. So -- but definitely, he played the game and he loves it,” claimed Kiciński.

I liked Reeves performance in Cyberpunk but Zero Punctuations review did make me laugh when Yahtzee mentioned that he’s not exactly a bad boy type cast and has the presence of an oversized Labrador.

Laugh is pretty much the only sensible reaction to NFTs. First it was sh*tcoins, then it was masternodes, now it's all NFTs baby. The house wins, everyone else involved loses.

I think NFTs could be valuable in the sense of being able to have games use this as a way to trade goods between other games. Problem is cooperation between different game studios and publishers. For instance if there were more marketplaces like Valves community market (EA, Epic etc) you could trade your items from steam to others. This could spawn new era of commerce as we slowly move into more autonomous world. A better future ecosystem.

As it stands right now however, NFTs are really just another way to try and make quick buck as "a sucker is born every minute".

as long as Corporations continue to put limited duration contracts for licensed content, then this will never happen (just because GAME A offers these licensed NFTs skins doesn't mean that GAME B will ever have the right to show the copyrighted work.)

There will never be an equivalent to the Performance Rights Organization for Licensed video game content , as there are far too many artists out there to have them talk ty radio DJs to get their first break (so they created an entire music industry that simplifies things)

Unless you think that Disney will give-up their golden goose, and just start letting every video game start using whatever the hell they want (no controls means Game Makers can dity-up Mickey or do a strange crossover betwerrn Bobba Fet and Moana) - whatever your dirty mind can think of, it will probably be abused by some game developer to sell more NFTs!)

Of course he smiled at in-game porn comment. I know I would. I'm not surprised that he doesn't play video games. As a person, he doesn't really seem all that interesting. I too have not played cyberpunk. Felt like another Watchdog type game and I didn't even enjoy Watchdogs all that much.

Keanu's priorities are porn and money
That sounds pretty normal to me.

That's why whenever a company makes me a "special" offer, I ignore it. No corporation would ever offer you something that wasn't in their own best interest.
What do you mean heckin' 100 wholesome Keanu Reeves doesn't consoom vidya games? We worship him! (kek)
No matter what movies he's been in and no matter who he has portrayed, Keanu Reeves understands that he'll always be Ted Logan. He even poked fun at that in the original Matrix when he saw Morpheus do that unbelievable jump and he said "Whoa!" in exactly the same way that Ted would have.
More lies from CDPR to sell their game.
Corporations are the only ones who lie more than Lawyers and Politicians.
well, he is a MAN.... :p
That's a fact.
My co-worker said the same thing
Your co-worker was also right.
Just marketing. They really changed their public image with Cyberpunk 2077 though. Before that they were the posterchild of the ideal developer, now they're like everyone else.:(
Lies in marketing are still lies.

When you've got that much money, you're too busy being in amazing places to play video games. If I had his money, I'd be also be too busy living it up in places like Paris, Monaco, Venice, Mikonos and Prague.

Was it just me or did keanu and carrie anne feel incredibly AWKWARD during that ENTIRE INTERVIEW? they be like um wtfbbq hepl

Children wondering why adults don't play video games as often as they do...
