Keyboard Issues

My Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard has begun entering extra characters when I type, for example the . key returns .2
the 2 key returns .2 and the @ returns >@

I need suggestions on how to correct this. I cannot type very well on my company Dell laptop, which is why I had begun using the external keyboard.

Thanks, in advance for your help.

PS
these are the only two keys that appear to be acting this way

Keyboards wear out too, and sometimes liquid damage or even high humidity environments hasten their demise. Microsoft still makes a great keyboard, so don't hesitate to grab a replacement.=)

@Kshipper thanks for the suggestion. You may be right. Yesterday, when I was in Outlook, each time I pressed the space bar, the search window opened! Talk about frustrating!
I plugged in the company provided keyboard and it works correctly. So, I'm off to the store to purchase a new ergonomic keyboard.
Thanks again
