Keyboard not working after sudden restart

Suddenly my laptop turned off and restarted, no blue-screen, nothing.

As I tried to log-in, I noticed the keyboard no longer worked. I plugged in a USB keyboard which allowed me to log-in successfully. I looked at my drivers and there were three 'Base System Device' drivers not installed, I attempted to install them - only two installed, but none of them fixed my keyboard problem.

I've attempted to reinstalling drivers from the CD, as well as updating the drivers from the DELL website - it hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any ideas about what the problem is? Is it a hardware problem / keyboard connections frazzled?

Turn off the laptop.Remove the battery for a couple of seconds and then reconnect it.Turn on again.
That is always the first thing i do with laptop problems.
