Laptop Not Recognizing XLR Microphone

So I have an Asus 2-1 15.6" laptop (Model: Q503AU, it comes with Realtek High Definition Audio), with an Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0 8-Channel Mixer, connected to the mixer is an Audio Technica AT2020 XLR Microphone. Now, I installed the mixer driver and under recording devices there is a line in option (Alesis USB Audio - WDM 2.9.64 is what comes up), but it is still not showing the microphone, are there settings that need to be changed for both the Mixer and the Microphone to be recognized? Also shouldn't the usb mixer be a recognized device, like a printer?
