In a briefcase: LG has introduced a portable display designed for on-the-go entertainment. It is not all that different than a traditional portable screen… except for the fact that it comes inside a hard-shell briefcase. The unit can be used in landscape, portrait, or tablet mode, and offers up to three hours of runtime on a single charge depending on usage.
The LG StanbyMe Go (model 27LX5QKNA) is a 27 inch portable touchscreen display (1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate, LED) that comes tucked inside an otherwise ordinary looking briefcase. The screen is on an adjustable arm and when the briefcase lid is opened, it can be lifted and rotated into the desired viewing position complete with height and angle adjustments.
A four-channel speaker system is rated for a maximum output of 20 watts. It runs LG's own webOS operating system and comes with a remote control for apps that do not support touch. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are both supported as well.
LG sees the StanbyMe Go as a multi-use device. In addition to simply watching content from streaming services, it can be used to play games on the go. The touch display can even be laid flat and used to play board games via apps.
LG's specs list the Go's dimensions as 670 mm x 433 mm x 119 mm (26.38 in x 17.05 in x 4.69 in) when closed and up to 729 mm (28.7 in) tall when opened with the screen in portrait mode. The bundle weights 12.7 kg (28 pounds) – heavier than I would have guessed, but the battery likely factors heavily into the equation. The unit carries a MIL-STD-810H durability certification.
It seems like a neat idea in theory although I am not certain it would be more than a novelty that you would use a few times then forget about completely. What do you think?
