Looking for help on upgrading computer

Dear "DemonSoliloquy", you're really resisting being helped, whether you know it or not.

Please follow this link, http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html and download this version to your desktop: (It's the last choice at the bottom of the page).

" SIW Without Installer
(English-Only) "

To run this, just double click it, it doesn't require installation.

The categories in the left pane should be self explanatory. Most of the info required will be under the "hardware" category.

Sorry, I don't really download programs like that just because somebody tells me to..And i looked up another way to check my chipset is to do dxdiag..

Well, I appreciate your hesitancy, and understand you caution, but I have been using SIW for years, without incident. This program was featured as a Techspot, "download of the week". However our download is the installer based version, which is not necessary, or IMO, desirable.

As to your computer, as I suspected it is an Intel 845 chipset. There really isn't anything, or combination of upgrades that would bring this up to the standard of even a "meets minimum requirements" machine, for most modern games.

Both the chipset and the Northwood P-4 are well respected components, but alas, they are more suited to word processing and surfing the internet, than to contemporary gaming.

As I said before, even replacing the video card is as dodgy prospect, since you'll be paying way too much, for too little results.

Hmm, tell you what? Build up the cash, and post in this thread when you think you're ready to build a new machine. Then we can give you a recommendation that's the best value-for-money at that point in time; component prices change with the advent of new products, so there is a great chance that you'll get a better deal some time down the road.

Good luck. :)
