In brief: Lords of the Fallen, the successor to the 2014 game that was one of the better Dark Souls clones, has just had its PC system requirements confirmed. As is the trend with modern titles, a fairly hefty setup is required even when playing the Unreal 5-powered game at 1080p.

Publisher CI Games has released the PC requirement for Lords of the Fallen ahead of its October 13 release date. Starting with the minimum requirements, an Intel i5-8400/Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1060/Radeon RX 590 combo is needed along with 8GB of RAM. It also asks for 45GB of drive space, which is relatively tiny these days, and while SSDs are preferred, you can use an HDD. There's also support for DX11. However, this minimum list is for 720p with Low Quality Settings.

Even the recommended settings are comparatively high-end for 1080p with High Quality Settings. It asks for an Intel i7 8700/Ryzen 5 3600 and an RTX 2080/Radeon RX 6700. Memory is upped to 16GB, and an SSD is now a requirement. That's still better than a Plague Tale: Requiem, which asks for an RTX 3070 for 1080p

Minimum Specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit
  • Processor: intel i5 8400 | AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 6GBs VRAM | Nvidia GTX 1060 | AMD Radeon RX 590
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 45 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: 720p Low Quality Settings | SSD (Preferred) | HDD (Supported)

Recommended Specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit
  • Processor: intel i7 8700 | AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 8GBs VRAM | Nvidia RTX 2080 | AMD Radeon RX 6700
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 45 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: 1080p High Quality Settings | SSD Required

Being an Unreal Engine 5 game means Lords of the Fallen comes with advanced graphical features such as Chaos Physics and Lumen GI. There's no word on whether it will have support for upscalers like DLSS, FSR, and XeSS, but it's likely as these features are part of most modern games.

The original Lords of the Fallen was an entertaining experience though not without its flaws. The upcoming successor promises to adhere to the Souls-like genre with interconnected worlds, various classes, and invasions by other players. There's also co-op multiplayer. Moreover, the use of Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark and Danzig's Mother in the trailers makes it more appealing, IMO.

It's at least a nice looking game unlike that golem game. Still a 2080 seems a bit steep for 1080p. Or maybe not....I don't know.

I wonder what the 1440p experience is going to require, and whether this title’s requirements are going to be the norm for UE5-based games.

UE5 benchmarking sounds like a great topic for a future deep dive article. 😉

The correct shopping order for a new gpu purchase is: Get the 'must play' NEW game(s) FIRST. If your current card can't play it/them the way you want, then buy a new gpu according to the demands of that/those games.

2080 is steep for 1080p.
I have a 2070 and it’s crap at RT but otherwise good. I wonder if this will improve after post-launch optimizations.

Seems about right to me if you want to run high settings. VRAM usage is skyrocketing in AAA titles. This looks graphically a lot better than say Elden Ring. DLSS might allow it to run ok on 1440p at mid range settings.

If I was a newbie, I would assume that this game only runs on nvidia hardware, especially a RTX 2080, going by that title.
