Belligerent? I thought we were doing math.I don’t understand why you feel the need to be so belligerent. Everything you spent all that time typing is incredibly obvious. My (obvious) overall point was that investing the money over ten years would substantially reduce the penalty and it could remove it entirely in certain circumstances.
I even liked your post...And...now I mostly agree with you.
“Investing the money could substantially reduce the effective cost, and under sufficiently favorable circumstances could theoretically cover it” is perfectly reasonable.
That just isn’t quite the same claim as “essentially negate the entire fine completely using the interest,” which is what started this little excursion into TechSpot Asset Management.
As for the belligerence, if pointing out the difference between “possible under ideal conditions” and “basically disappears” now qualifies as belligerent, then apparently calculators have become hostile instruments.
But we’ve arrived at the sensible version, so I’m happy to declare the fund solvent, release the accountants, and holster the aggressive arithmetic.
