Microsoft calls out PlayStation 4 Pro over lack of 4K Blu-ray player, subpar performance

The Xbox S may have enough horsepower to actually do native 4k but I have a feeling there will still be compromises made.

who said anything about native 4K. ps4 pro will do upscaling from a resolution that is between 1620p (2x 1080p) and ~90% of 4K (according to devs) which is more than enough if they use the checkerboard upscaling technique with good AA.

The lack of a UHD Blu-Ray player is indeed *****ic, just like all the PlayStations' lack of SACD playback (since Sony invented this unasked-for format in the first place).

But XBox shouldn't even be a consideration for a self-respecting consumer. Not only does Microsoft CHARGE EXTRA for the ability to get Netflix or other streaming services (on top of the services' full fees), but now apparently they've taken away your ability to play head-to-head games AT HOME.

Yeah, apparently the XBox no longer lets you play against the person sitting next to you. WTF?

You realise MS hasn't "CHARGED EXTRA" for years right? Netflix, HBOgo etc are all free to use without Xbox live. Also I was just reading that Gears 4 has split screen co-op. So I have no idea what you're talking about.

Omg I can't play against other people on the couch?? Did they remove that from Diablo 3? Oh .. No they didn't it still works. And Netflix is available with live silver which is free. And you get 48 games a year for the £3 Microsoft charge for gold, most of which are still available if you cancel. So where's the beef...

PS4 it's an outstanding machine and the Pro is building on that I don't want a PC or a UHD player I want a gaming machine and that is what a PS4 is in such a level that made microsoft move their xbox games to other ecosystem and now they are talking because of lack of UHD player that will be enabled via system updated cmon they should be worried producing good games instead, the PS Pro was never meant to be different from a PS4 just a slightly upgrade I'm so tired of hearing the internet ignoring the purpose of the PS4 Pro, that makes the game journalists look pathetic in so many ways and Microsoft cmon holding on that to make the S relevant give me a break and go make some good games for you audience...

Before talking the Xbox One S and 4K talk about Xbox One S and 1080p/60 Games Xbox one S is less powerful that the PS4 so do the calculations... they just added the 4K output and HDR enhancements on the S nothing more... in terms of raw power it's still the same weak console that can't do naive 1080p

Interesting that Sony aren't letting Bethesda release mods for Fallout and Skyrim and the Pro will upscale from 1800p to 4K. Bit wierd that they are releasing the Pro this early if it's not receiving more of a bump.

My PC is a gaming machine. Also, Sony needs to announce something to compete with Project Scorpio.

The PS4 Pro was never meant to receive more than what they did we knew this since ever... and about the Fallout and Skyrim I prefer not talk about it because 1. I don't like both games and 2. we don't know the details of the decision, so yah...

They are indeed popular games but not more important games ever made so the point remains... there are a lot of new better games than those 2 coming out soon and people will move from those 2 games, people will move on because there is a lot to play and mods are just mods in the end and people will search for entire new experiences...

Someone who likes those games will find the lack of mods annoying unless they own a PC or Xbox One in which case they will play on those instead. Theres probably quite a few people who own both games and just a PS4 who are pissed that mods aren't available and are wondering why Sony have made the decision they have. You in the meantime have already said you don't care about those games. Fair enough but it doesn't stop anyone else at least questioning the motive behind the decision. In the meantime I bought a PS4 the other day and as an owner of both consoles and a PC, I still question it. Right now. Why. People will move on... New experiences...

Maybe people want to get the most from the experiences they already paid for.

You don't need to pay for xbox live to get Netflix. Been this way for a long time.
