Microsoft confirms "Project Helix," a next-gen Xbox that runs both Xbox and PC games

Will we be able to use a mouse and keyboard with this console? Or are we stuck with the craptacular controllers that all game systems seem to be stuck on for the last few decades?

lol 90% of console base knows how to use a console. not build one. that will never happen.
If people can handle dismantling the PS5 to add a hard drive, I'm sure those people won't have any issues doing something similar with graphics cards and memory.

But does it run your actual Xbox games, or just the PC version of your games who are also available on the Microsoft Store?

This.

Color me skeptical. The whole reason consoles can look near as good as PCs while having lower tech specs is that with static hardware, console devs can optimize code for that hardware. PC hardware ranges from potato to near supercomputer, and even minimum specs to run some AAA games exceeds recommended specs for other games released the same year. It's difficult to imagine an console that is anywhere near affordable being able to play the most current PC games at the resolutions and framerates people expect, let alone future titles.

Also, we heard this 25 years ago, with the 1st gen Xbox, when we learned it had PC-based internals and ran on modified Windows and DirectX.

Personally speaking, I think that the gaming community has become too greedy for their own good. Always wanting more and more and guess what? We've hit the wall.

Cheaters REJOYICE! This will probably make it even easier for the scum of gaming to ruin the online experience for millions more users.

All comes down to price...

My recent PC build mid to higher spec (no 5090) for gaming cost $4k. Even if it cost half that, most won't want to pay that.

No kidding, they should allow XBOX games to run on PC instead of this half-brained idea.

This move didn’t come out of nowhere. MS has been slowly heading here for quite some time.

Its a strategy that may work...Stop separating PC and Xbox, make Xbox part of the PC ecosystem. However, If Helix is basically Windows under the hood, that could raise a real concern.

It is interesting, Valve and MS could be changing the entire gaming market as we know it.
