Microsoft is moving ahead with its plan to eradicate VBScript from the web. On August 13, 2019, in the next Patch Tuesday update, the company will disable the technology by default on Internet Explorer 11 (IE11).

Microsoft more recently deemed VBScript totally unnecessary, along with ActiveX, because the default on the web today is JavaScript, which is supported by all major browsers.​

This is one of many reasons why it is hard to stand behind Microsoft applications. They go out of their way to kill off software they deem old and outdated.

which would have been totally unnecessary had Microsoft stayed with the W3C standards in the first place.

For example, the terrible hack of looking to see the browser name and version has now been withdrawn too with the W3C doctype of HTML (which implies html-5). Modern client side code no longer needs special case code for variations in Javascript DOM {with the bold assumption you're not supporting down-level browsers like IE 8,9

Of that I will not disagree. But Microsoft didn't and now that some people might be using VBS, their programs will (by MS intentions) stop working.
