When I Try To Update My Software Through The Microsoft Update Site http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, I Get The Following Message;

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

Can Any One Explain This And Sort Out This Problem Thanks.

1. Create a batch file and copy the following contents in it and then double click on it to register modules.

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mshtml.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msjava.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\jscript.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msxml.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll

2. Restart the Windows Update and Automatic service

3. Stop the Cryptographic Service

4. Remove the folder \Windows\System32\Catroot2

5. Rename the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.

This above folder is the restoration point for Windows Update service.

6. Now restart the Cryptographic Service.

7. Create another batch file and put the following lines in it and then double click on it to register the modules:

regsvr32 /s Softpub.dll
regsvr32 /s Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 /s Initpki.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll

Your Windows Update should work.

if you are on a mac, then you need to access the site
from your emulation side.
kimsland: Macs don't have regsvr32 :)

if you're really on Windows, just use the IE browser and run from an ADMIN account.

Windows OS

I have seen this error on PC with Windows installed
I'm sure you must have as well. (If not, then yes it can happen on faulty PC)

It could be a Mac too, but then it must be in a different forum

Adam
have you activated your copy of XP or is it perhaps a recovery install? I have seen this happen with installations that do not need activation such as on some laptops as well - and Kimsland's solution will not always work either.
To create a batch file, open notepad and enter the text commands. Then save it as a .bat file - eg update.bat to somewhere where you can find it easily such as the desktop perhaps.

I have attached a zip file holding Bat1 (step1) and Bat2 (Step7)

Download and unzip them (do not click on the bat files yet)

Please follow all steps, and run each Bat file when required

Also to stop the Cryptographic Service:
Start-->Run--> %SystemRoot%\System32\net.exe stop CryptSvc

To start the Cryptographic Service:
Start-->Run--> %SystemRoot%\system32\net.exe start CryptSvc

5. Rename the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.

For This Step Kimsland What Do You Rename The Folder To.

No

Mainly due to being impossible!

Seems AlbertLionheart was right (Although I knew that it may/or may not work)

Please wait a moment, I'll be right back !

This Windows Version Is Legit Its The Version That Came Installed With The Computer When We Brought It.

We Are Not Having A Problem With Installing Updates. The Problem We Are Having Is;

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

This Is Saying That We Can't Install Updates Becuase The Site Thinks We Are Using A Mac When Infact We Are On Windows XP.

I Have Not Perform Any Of The Stages From The Website : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

ok thanks for the repeat on that

Anyway, please read my Edit above (it may have been missed)

Please try and let me know the outcome

With The Application What Should I Use When You Start It Theres Four Options;

Open Services Window
Phase 1
Phase 2
Start BITS

Here is the sequence:

Start BITS
Phase 1
Phase 2

You may need to press OK on each button press, also Phase2 may take a few seconds to complete.

Try Windows Update again after that

When I Started BITS I Got The Following Error;

Error while starting BITS. The problem was not fixed or BITS was already running.

Phrase One Says There Was Nothing To Fix And I Should Try Thrase Two

Phrase Two Says Done. Click Ok To Starts BITS Service Now.

BITS Says Error while starting BITS. The problem was not fixed or BITS was already running.

The Windows Update Site Still Says;

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

Ok we are on to the next one ! ( I'm patient, but how you going?)

Disconnect your Network Cable, and exit your personal firewall (usually right click on tray icon and select close or exit)

Click on Start-->Run and then type in this exact wording (actually you can copy and paste it)
sfc /scannow
This process can take up to 1 Hour to complete
It will not lose any data, or hurt your system what so ever

During the process, you may be asked for your Windows CD (just to copy files from)

Please do it (I would if that helps)

try this; Belarc Advisor it will point you to anything that 'needs to be installed',
and some of them can be downloaded directly as they are security fixes and do
not need Windows Genuine Advantage support :)

What Does The Belarc Advisor Do Exactly Ive Installed It And Run It And It Goes To Some Web Site And Asks To Activate Active X.

What Does It Show Jobeard
