Motorola is co-hosting a press event with Verizon Wireless on October 18 in New York. The invitation and accompanying teaser video doesn’t indicate what will be announced, but there’s some pretty solid speculation as to what we might see next Tuesday. The invitation promises the next big thing from Motorola Mobility and includes the tagline “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.” So what can we possibly expect to see in the near future?

Many believe the duo will unveil the Motorola Xoom 2 tablet, the successor to the original Xoom that launched in February of this year. The new tablet has been spied already and features angled corners and a more industrial look than the original. Aside from 4G LTE support, hardware specs are still unknown although we are keeping our fingers crossed for a quad-core Kal-El mobile processor. Anything less could result in a lackluster welcoming from consumers.

SlashGear believes we could see some new handsets at the event as well. The Atrix 2 is said to have a 4.3-inch qHD screen and a dual-core processor, in addition to the same netbook-like capabilities of the original.

Additionally, the Droid Razr could turn a few heads as Motorola breathes new life into the familiar brand. Leaked specs include a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4G LTE and full HD video recording. The Super AMOLED, Gorilla Glass display is 4.3-inches and runs at 960 x 540. It is believed that this is the same device as the Droid HD that leaked in August.

Yeah, if there's no Kal-El, or at least some other quad core SoC, then I'm definitely not interested, particularly if they keep their ridiculous pricing.
