Thanks Tedster, here is one more name to use your process with, AltPay. I found it lurking when I was doing the others.

"for the movieland virus:

search on your c drive for AltPayment*.* and delete all files.
boot into safe mode
turn off system restore
go to regedit and delete all references to altpayment
exit
do a search for mediapipe on your c drive and delete all references to it. use any uninstallers that pop up.
go back into regedit and delete all references to mediapipe"

ADDED BY MARSHA:
do a search for altpay on your c drive and delete all references to it. use any uninstallers that pop up.
go back into regedit and delete all references to altpay

viruses sometimes go under different guises and also there are no standards for naming computer viruses. Some can have different names by different anti-virus companies.
Thanks for helping.

Class Action lawsuit against Movieland

Hi All. This Movieland extortion has violated the laws of a number of states, and pissed me off badly. It has screwed up my son's computer, which I am trying to work from.

I think I know how to get this company's attention - by suing them as a class. If you're interested, send me an email scsmith@carlsmith.com

It won't cost you anything but if there are enough people who were ripped off, it may cost Movieland and its parent a lot.

Aloha

Stephen C. Smith

from vcn.com:

Solution:

First, don't pay them or give them any credit card or other info. You don't owe them any money. Movieland is spyware; in other words it's a bad program that you should get rid of.

Here's how to get rid of it:

Click the Start menu, and Control Panel should be in there (or Settings, then Control Panel). Then open Add/Remove Programs. It should open with a big list of things. Look through the list for:

* AltPayments,
* Media Pipe, or
* P2Pnetworks.

Probably just P2PNetworks will be there, and so click on it so it's highlighted, and then click the Remove (or Change/Remove or Add/Remove) button. Tell it you do want to uninstall, and go through its process, then click close. Now it should be gone from the list. If either AltPayments or Media Pipe do happen to be there, do the same process to remove them.

Now close Add/Remove Programs and we're going to Program Files. Open My Computer, then open "Local Disk (C:)", then open Program Files (click on show contents if contents are hidden in either folder). The items we want to delete in there are:

* AltPayments or altpayV2
* fsupport
* ITBills (if you have this one, you probably will have to go into safe mode to remove)
* MediaPipe
* You also have something about MovieLand Terms or MovieLand Hotmail Something (I don't remember exactly, sorry), possibly at the end of the list rather than under "M" where you'd expect. Delete that also. Anything with Movieland in the title, delete.
* You probably don't have p2pnetworks in Program Files (since we just removed it in Add/Remove Programs), but if you do delete it too.

Now once all that is gone, go back into Add/Remove Programs and see if you have Notification Utility. If you do have it in the list, remove it (thanks to the commenters below for this tip).

If It Didn't Work:

You may get a message that says it cannot delete the file due to it is being used by another person or program and to close all programs. If you get this message, you've got to do more work. Do the following:

1) Download Pocket KillBox from: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip .

2) Restart your computer into safe mode now. To go into safe mode, go into the Start menu, choose Restart just as you normally would, then start hitting the F8 key at the top of the keyboard. Just keep hitting F8 over and over every second or so until it brings you to a black screen giving you some choices. Using your arrow keys on the keyboard, choose Safe Mode, then hit Enter. Then wait a while and it will eventually bring you into Windows Safe Mode.

3) Try deleting the folders in safe mode. Quite possibly you will be able to successfully delete them now. If not, continue with the steps below to have Pocket KillBox force it to delete.

4) Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.

5) Now put a tick by Standard File Kill.

6) In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste C:/Program Files/altpayv2 , C:/Program Files/MediaPipe , C:/Program Files/p2pnetworks , and any of the other folders you couldn't delete one at a time. Then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

So, to recap, paste these folders in and make sure Deltree is checked before hitting the red x:

C:/Program Files/altpayv2 (and/or AltPayments)
C:/Program Files/MediaPipe
C:/Program Files/p2pnetworks
C:/Program Files/[any folder or file with Movieland in the title]
Also delete ITBills and fsupport if they are present (Thanks to the commenters below for letting us know about these variants!). Also anything with Notification or Notifier in the name is highly suspect and should probably be deleted.

Hopefully that does it!

In my experience, deleting these files has successfully cleaned Movieland. So, the hijacking and pop-ups should stop now. But, it's possible there's more than one version of Movieland, so if this doesn't work, you could get serious and do some of the more thorough and time-comsuming steps here:

http://forums.techguy.org/security/421861-movieland-media-pipe-spyware-removal.html

or here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic36432.html

Also, if you had Movieland, chances are good you have other spyware infections as well. So if you have the time, you really should also do the steps in the Preventing Spyware Problems article here: http://home.vcn.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=346 .

OK I have read this site and another one. I tried several things from here but it never worked.

I found Media Pipe and removed it and I searched for altpayv2.* and foudn nothing.

I went to Task Manager and found "itbill.exe" and deleted it.

I searched for "ITBILL directory".
right clicked on the directory
selected "sharing" from the top
selected the radio button for "share this folder"
selected the "permission" button
make sure "everyone" is slected at the top then select "full control", "change" and "read"
click on "apply" (bottom) and then "ok"
repeat if necessary
Now you can delete the folder "ITBILL". Also make sure you cna delete it from your recycle bin too!!!!

As a back up to this, I created a false hotmail account and tried the "I'll pay" route in order to be able to send an email to the customer service. I ask them to cancel my subscription. So if I do get 1000 spam emails that account will get them and after 30 day the hotmail account will be made idle.

So far no movieland pop up payment window.

Theoretically

Umm... if someone didn't like movieland very much, is there any way to screw them up a lot? just theoretically mind. I don't want toget blamed if the entire company shuts down in a few days... Its not like if you told me I would go and do it... Because really who would dislike them that much? They are a lovely company really... So anyway... Some kind of virus? or an air strike?

to get rid of that damn annoying movieland pop up...

DO NOT!!! I REPEAT DO NOT!!! GO ON THEIR SITE TO CANCEL! THIS IS A DEFINITE NO NO!! and for those of you who think that my language does not sound or look proper, it's because i'm only 13 lol :blush: well as i was saying do not do this otherwise the system will still have give you pop-ups but less frequently, maybe one pop-up every 20 minutes or so. I highly recomend you go to http://www.vcn.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=422 IT WORKS and it is simple to follow, and you can do it yourself so it's free! :angel: i hope this helps A LOT because it helped me.. i know alot of you have problems with this movieland pop-up thing and so i created this account that i'm only going to use this once... no point in e-mailing me or trying to contact me. byee s2 :)

MoviePass Changes it Terms for Cancellation!

Fair enough!!

If you have the time then perhaps you could POST A LINK to it rather than making randomn comments.

That way it HELPS people you see :) lol

P.S Task manager is free if ya know what ya doing ;)

I was researching the latest variant to remove MoviePass for one of my customers. I went to their website and read the terms of service (I had looked at them a few months ago) and they changed! They took down their toll-free number and created a subscription cancellation page.

They didn't even make it a link, so you have to copy and paste it into your browser window. Then if you have a clean system it tells you access is denied, and asks you to reinstall MoviePass!

If you have an infected system, it lets you in.

Whatever you do, do not reinstall MoviePass. You don't have to pay these people a dime. Remove Moviepass and then report these jerks to the FTC!!! This is such a SCAM!

Can't Stop the Charges

Being a fool, I felt threatened by these pop-ups demanding that I pay for the service. I agreed to pay $19.95 per month for a year. I know - I'm stupid.
I received a member # and then uninstalled (I thought) the program. I have no contact info for them. For a long time, I didn't remember the name of the site, and the debit transactions show up as www.mediacaster.com
I have found this site by searching for mediacaster, and now my eyes have been opened.
If I attempt to log into the site, using my member #, it goes to a page that says "Authenticating...." and just sits there. It is not frozen, just idle. The problem is that I have no way of contacting these people in order to cancel the service. They have been debiting my checking account for about 2 years now. Help! Does anyone know how to contact them so that I can cancel the service.

you need to call them directly

I had to try to uninstall this on a work computer. You opened a popup sometime ago and it automatically downloads a "free" clip or movie offer. The fine print says you have to pay to remove the software. I just searched for the company name, called them directly, and an operator de-activated the account and told me how to delete it. Pretty simple, just have to have patience on the phone. I searched on google for the number. good luck

Holy Moses!
I'd suggest that the first thing you do is contacting your bank and have them stop those recurring payments.

THANKS JWIDDI - RE: Movieland Wants $$$

As you suggested, I searched more and finally found a phone number. Called and cancelled last week. The only thing I could get out of them was a refund of the last charge - $19.95. That just showed up as a credit in my banking acct. today. I greatly appreciate the help and suggestions. I feel free of this burden.
If others are trying to get rid of this charge, follow this link:
