MP3 players and li ion battery

Hi I was wondering, as all mp3 players advise you, as they use lithium ion batteries, to charge the battery fully before first use, then how crucial this was? I remember reading somewhere that not charging a li ion battery to full at first use will undermine its future operational battery life. I've got a Sony Walkman player and for the first charge, as only USB cable was supplied, I charged it about halfway and then switched off the computer. Would this have affected the battery life of my player?

I would say yes, you wouldn't get the optimal life from the battery, but you probably would never notice...
