Exactly this. People are acting like Musk wants his platform to be off the rails toxic/crazy and that's not what he's looking for. The only reason this is even happening is because Twitter's censorship is so damn lopsided.
I have to say it's pretty funny how we are seeing people complain after hearing "it's a privately owned company, they can do whatever they want" for so long.

In a more observational mood then, I think I can judge his motives by his behaviors in the past, mostly on two specific instances.

1: The "farting Tesla turn signals". If they weren't an offering for people desperately wanting attention, while simultaneously offending anyone they used them on, nothing was. That stunt was the technological equivalent of a 5th grade practical joke, "the whoopee cushion".

2: Musk publicly kicking back smoking a joint. One of the primary symptoms of cannabis intoxication is sensory magnification, as well as, making people laugh hysterically at nothing at all.

Now, don't you think that conservatives versus liberals, could provide hours of entertainment to a someone who's stoned? (**)

Twitter is destined to become Musk's private zoo.

That's certainly not the only reason why Musk is buying Twitter.

And the biggest reason why Twitter's moderation is perceived as lopsided is that there are a lot of people who feel rules should not apply to them - mostly because they do not understand why they were needed in the first place.
People that just happen to include Musk, the Trump family, and a whole lot of chicken littles that, not coincidentally, are predominantly found on the far right.

Actually, article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which is ratified by almost all European nations and all EU members, specfically states 'Everyone has the right to freedom of expression.'. But you knew that, right? You wouldn't just be blowing smoke, surely.
