LOL. The arrogance of the EU elites is truly entertaining.

"Breton... noted it's not Musk's relaxed moderation rules that will apply in Europe but rather the rules encompassed in the Digital Services Act."

Mr. Breton has delusions of grandeur. He believes that the EU represents all of Europe. He forgot about Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Liechtenstein, Turkey, Albania, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and the United Kingdom.

Musk should just ban Mr. Breton from Twitter and be done with it. The EU cannot stop Musk from censoring people.

They act as though Musk is a noobie. You don't accumulate 1/4 Trillion Dollars by being stupid. Musk probably has a dedicated legal team handling EU content moderation issues.
You know that you actually included a few EU members in your list, right ? Plus some transcontinental countries.
Oh, and it also includes EEA members who apply some EU rules and regulations since they are part of the EU‘s common market (without being EU members).

This has nothing to do with free speech. If it is, it's painful to watch.

It's about the uneducated, whiners and loners wanting to be heard and part of something, anything, except what they have to say isn't worth hearing. Like, at all.

Social media is being used for lazy protesting and apparently helping the rich get richer. What its become is a platform for wide spread trolling and bullying fueled by poor education and low general intelligence.

I'm unfamiliar with the meaning of the labels "populist" or "libertarian", as I don't spend a lot of time studying politics or political labels. When I said conservative, I simply meant right-leaning, as opposed to left-leaning, regardless of how you want to label it.
What you're describing us political "centrism", and although you undoubtedly won't take my word for it, it's out of style, completely.

and still, the EU population is 447.01 millions inhabitants... that's 100+ milions than in the US ...

"[Others] are still struggling to understand how things went from Musk becoming a passive shareholder to being invited on the board of directors to offering to buy the company outright."

Money.

The single most basic business principle.

Ah, Musky meets reality, and reality slaps him in the face.

EDIT: The interesting thing is, IMO, that the deal is not even final at this point. It still requires shareholder approval, yet I think it hilarious that Musky is finding out that he is not King of the world - even without the finality of the deal.

Personally, if I ran a social media, I'd give you a thumb up/ thumb down button, love emoji, sad emoji and laugh emoji.

That said: Twitter's not very popular. It's 15th in the world in social media popularity and doesn't make much money. Why Musk bought it instead of making his own, I have no idea.

This is the biggest waste of money ever.

Even looking at Facebook you can clearly see the decline of social media popularity partly due to Apple/ Google privacy settings and partly due to lib-tarded censorship nonsense.
Maybe this is a sign that you should re-evaluate your relationship to Musky? After all, look what this Musky gas release and lunacy has done, short run, for Tesla - https://money.usnews.com/investing/...-value-amid-musk-twitter-deal-funding-concern

My bet is that Musky is doing this Tweeter deal because he is not as confident as his gas releases indicate in either Tesla or SpaceX and he thinks he is insulating himself against losses there and elsewhere - as if he does not already have enough insulation.

IMO, Musky wants, and thinks he deserves, kingship just like another well-known conservaturd. The two, musky and that conservaturd, are not unalike, IMO.

Why do you think they were banned and yes anyone with an IQ above a turnip knows it's a satire site.
That's not saying much considering how often the Onion gets mistaken for real news ha ha ha...

Man I miss walking by bus stops or the subway stations and being able to pick up the latest weekly Onion and after I was done laughing my *** off would try to pass them off as real like the troublemaker I was... err... am.

Well. As you correctly pointed out, the Leftist social media platforms are losing money because of their draconian censorship policies. The old saying is that the Customer is ALWAYS right. Money talks, BS walks. You don't make money if you argue with your customers over politics.

Twitter has tremendous potential. If Trump returns, millions will come with him. It translates into some great profit potential.

I'm not pro-Trump but this whole scenario could turn out to be one of the truly great financial coups of all time. No credit to Trump.
Trump returning to Tweeter t'ain't gonna happen - at least according to him https://nypost.com/2022/04/25/trump-says-he-wont-return-to-twitter-even-with-elon-musk-in-charge/ But since he is the most honest human being ever created by God, it remains to be seen.

"the new legislation will require companies like Twitter to ensure that harmful content like threats, harassment, revenge porn, and calls for violence is taken down before it has any significant negative impact on users."

Well no ****....
As if his plans were to allow any of those things. My god people are so damn doom and gloom over this. It's very simple, the left can't control the narrative by silencing conservatives like they have in the past. All of this is twitters fault by dictating who can have a voice and who can't.
The very fact that this has caused such an uproar shows exactly how biased it was.

You can tell how butthurt someone is over Musk buying Twitter by how often they mention farts and use the word "Musky."

So Techspot represent a leftist agenda according to this article's author. Without saying it outright. Just hiding behind unknowns. Got it. And fair enough. There exist worse bitches.
I think the writer might have some leftist bias, but I think he's trying to stay fair in his reporting too. I say that because he is including a fair amount of negative reporting on Musk, and they have some degree of truth, but some are a little out of context. But he definitely covers the opposing views many have supporting Musk. That's okay with me, after all everyone's going to have some bias and can only try to mitigate it.

This Tweet by Musk would've been key to include, which was posted 1.5hrs before the article, and would've made the article moot if he had read it before writing this:

I would imagine that Elon articles bring lots of clicks so it could have been seen and ignored but who knows.

Here we go again, just another money grab by the EU bureaucrats! Every single month they find an angle or pass draconian legislation to STEAL wealth from America. As soon as the buyout was in sight they all started rubbing their greedy hands in anticipation of another fine. DISGUSTING!

I'm pretty sure the only opinions you'll be "warmly receiving" are ones that are distinctly left-leaning. So I wouldn't expect them to become fashionable in right-wing circles any time soon.

Moreover, you're embodying the typical approach of labeling dissenting opinions as "hate speech" in order to get them shut down.

"Hate speech" is a bogus, made-up term by the left shutdown ANY dissenting speech that disagrees with their religion of ignorance. I could tell someone to "go eat a tomato" and those insane fools would figure out an angle to call it "hate speech".

I'm going to retract this and leave it alone.

Well, that's not really what people are concerned about, is it? I mean, yea, we don't want that stuff out there, but the real issue isn't this. It's being disallowed to voice your opinions. It's being "fact checked" by organizations that spend exorbitant amounts of effort to rationalize why they think your facts aren't applicable. Sort of like squashing the Hunter Biden laptop story, which is now turning out to be true.

It is possible to hold conservative political opinions that are not based on ignorance, lies or malice.

Such opinions would surely be warmly received if they ever became fashionable again in right wing circles.
The same could be said about liberal opinions. Look at the venom coming from the left over Twitter, it's an attack on democracy and freedom. blah blah blah.

You know what is an attack on democracy? Twitter employees spying on people on behalf of the Saudi government. You know, the government that has journalist murdered when they don't write nice things about the royal family. The Twits at Twitter didn't seem to have a problem when a free-speech hating despot owned 5% of the company. But one guy comes along and says he wants to end the bias and censorship and you would think the world was ending.

Exactly this. People are acting like Musk wants his platform to be off the rails toxic/crazy and that's not what he's looking for. The only reason this is even happening is because Twitter's censorship is so damn lopsided.
I have to say it's pretty funny how we are seeing people complain after hearing "it's a privately owned company, they can do whatever they want" for so long.
Such hypocrites.

 Actually, no its not. Do yourself a favor and review some of the freely available decisions by SCOTUS on the 1st Amendment.

And, just in case you were not aware, SCOTUS does not work for Trump.
