I'm building a Desktop for my niece and have installed Windows 11 pro. My question is what software should I install for someone who is new to Windows 11 or other OS in general.

I was going to debloat Win11, but not sure if that would cause any grief for a novice user. I did run OFGB and have installed Malwarebytes, 7-Zip, and did a few registry tweaks.

That's an interesting question. I still like XP and run it as a virtual OS in Windows 11 with VMware. I've still got three computers running XP Pro. I think that running it as a virtual OS would introduce too much confusion for a beginner. It will still likely be possible to install XP Pro on a present day computer but you may need to find a preactivated copy. Your niece could run it for say a month and then you could install Windows 11. The problem with that is that XP shouldn't be used for any financial transactions due to lack of security, Also, you need to search for and download discontinued versions of browsers because they won't work properly with XP.

All in all I think you'd be better just going in at the deep end with Windows 11 and concentrate on surfing. There are plenty of groups, at least there are in the UK, helping new computer users to gain confidence with a PC. Public libraries offer assistance now they have become hubs with hardly any books.
