When im at my friend's and he hosts LAN I can connect, but when they go to my house, I host LAN. doesn't work (using a THINK PAD)
Either the firewall on your computer is preventing connection through your network or your router is preventing interconnection of computers. Make sure your host computer has your network set as "Home", and that Java is allowed access to home/private networks.

If that doesn't work, DON'T undo it. You can look up how to set up your router to allow connection between devices on the network.

Ok so this is the first time I have used a forum to post somthing so I hope I am doing this correctly. I have been playing on my friends Minecraft FTB server for about 2 weeks now. Last night I tried to log in and I would click the multiplay to join his server and it would show a X over the service looking bars on the right and say can not connect to server. Now I did call and see if it was running and it was also my husband was able to log in just fine. This has also happened to me for the subscriber server of Pungence's tho I was previously able to play on it as well Plz Help I have watched tons of videos and nothing seems to be helping : ( Thank you so much in advance!!

Okay, so what looks to be happening is that something on your computer (firewall or antivirus or something) is preventing Java from accessing the network.

Have you installed a different antivirus software, or maybe just upgraded your current one? What antivirus software do you use?

Are you sure your firewall is allowing Java to access the network? I don't know what in the world might cause this to happen suddenly, but you can check by following the instructions in this link here. There should be a program in the list called "Java(TM) Platform SE binary", and it should be checked on all three boxes. If not, you need to click "Allow another program...", and find javaw.exe in the directory "Program Files\Java\jre7\bin" (or jre6 or jre8 if you have those instead). Allow both public and private network access.

I hope this helps :D

Minecraft

I don't know how to find My minecraft server's IP. I have been on sites like IPchicken.com but my friends still can't connect. I can connect using localhost but my friends can't. I'm stuck! PLEASE HELP!!!!!
The answer is that you have to download cmd or if you have cmd go on it and type ipconfig. Then find where the ip is. And then your friend puts in the ip. After that login to your minecraft then press escape button and then go to open to lan that is your answer.

Hey guys, was reading through this earlier in a search to fix to this exact same problem, and figured I'd share. I found out my modem actually has port forwarding settings, so even though I was port forwarding my router, the modem still needed to be configured as such. I went to my modem at local IP 192.168.0.1, and port forwarded 25565 to 192.168.0.2, and presto. Hope this helps some of you.
How Do I do that?

You can open cmd and type in 'ipconfig' then use the address that comes up under IPv4 address.

This may be an old post, so I hope that someone can help me.
I have been trying to set up a server that my friends can access from a separate network during the lockdown.

The server works locally, I know this as I can play on my own server. I have attached a photo showing it working.
I have also Port Forwarded on my router, another picture attached.
I have also allowed the port on my firewall, I have attached a picture showing this as well.
I have finally attached a picture showing my server properties.
I think I have done everything right and I have attached all photos to show this and hopefully provide as much info as possible. However, my friend still can't get onto my server. When I am online he types in the external IP followed by ':25565' for the port and it doesn't work.

Please can someone help me with this?

have you tried without the port on the end as you probably don't need it

What was your mistake? Does Minecraft have a server hosting manual specifying which port it uses? Make sure you forward the correct port to the server's correct LAN IP (assign a static IP to the server).

And make sure there's no firewall blocking this port on the server.
