My GPU

The on board gpu in my "family" computer is basically no good. It shows a picture, but the gpu is basically ready to go. I was wondering if I need to buy a new motherboard seeing as I can not remove the gpu, or can I simply buy a graphics card for the desktop to replace the on board gpu?

Link us to your system and if you can specifically to your motherboard.

The computer is not useable. The gpu is too gone. They have laptops, but my mom wants the desktop working again. I'd let her use mine, but seeing what they did to that one I just have to say no to that. lol

If you can, borrow a video card from a friend and install it on your motherboard and see if that works.

How old is this desktop?

It is an hp with windows 7. As to the motherboard, and the model number I can not get those right now as I am currently not at home.
