My laptop's desktop is not responding

  1. I heard that this was a good place to seek support. The other day I turned on my laptop and logged in and when it got to the desktop, it was blank with only the cursor visible. The laptop runs on Windows 8.1 by the way. I launched safe mode and ran a malware scan, it removed the threats. So, when it finished I rebooted and logged in. The desktop came on, but there were no icons for anything. If I tried to click anything pinned on the toolbar, it would just end up not responding. I'm using safe mode right now, I've tried command prompt, sfc and dism. They both do not work due to missing components. System restore doesn't work. Please help me!!!!

You are going to have to attempt to do a factory recovery. Most laptops have this option by pressing F8 while booting. Try backing up important files in Safe Mode first
