Need help with Vista Home Premium

IE 7 don't work so I was able to upgrade it to IE 8. That allowed me to install Service Pack 2.
This is the laptop I am working on. When I click in the URL bar, it fills with /////////////// all the way.
To boot it up, it goes to the VAIO logo, I have to tap the ESC key on a USB keyboard because the regular KB don't work. The next screen shows Boot Menu
1 USB OpticalDrive
2. Internal Optical Drive
3. Floppy Disk Drive
4. Usb Flash
5. USB Hard Disk Drive
6. Internal Hard Disk Drive (The one I highlight & tap enter
7. Network

I think it is current on MS updates. Mouse is also USB. I know its ancient, so I'm wondering if its worth fixing or back into the closet?? I've been messing with it for 2 weeks.

Hi,
It's not a very big issue. All you have to do is just disconnect the keypad since its not working (You can Google it, they will show you pictorial way to disconnect the keypad) and use external keyboard. Instead of IE, use Opera. It works beautifully.
