No sound. No audio device?

I am using an IBM NetVista 830581U and have no sound. When looking at the device manager it says there is no audio device
I received this computer from a 73 year old woman whose husband has died. Neither of us know anything about it. I have Logitech external speakers. There are no drivers or software for these. I have no sound and cannot figure out how to get sound. I know nothing about computers so I will most likely come across as obtuse. Sorry. :-/
