Nokia announced today that it's suspending sales of its Lumia 2520 Windows tablet in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, and the UK. The decision was taken after the Finnish company discovered that the AC-300 charger packed with the tablet is faulty.

"Under certain conditions, the plastic cover of the charger’s exchangeable plug could come loose and separate. If loose and separated, certain internal components may cause an electric shock if touched while the plug remains in the live socket", the company said. The advisory affects around 30,000 chargers, including 600 travel charger accessories sold in the US.

While the warning doesn't cover the in-box charger of the Lumia 2520 sold in the United States, the company has suspended sales of the travel charger accessory sold in the country. No consumer incidents have occurred yet but the company advises users not to use the charger until further notice.

The company hasn't yet commented on the availability of replacement chargers. "We are working with urgency to minimize the inconvenience”, said Jo Harlow, EVP Smart Devices. The chargers in question were manufactured by a third-party supplier, the company says. Consumers wanting more information and updates are encouraged to check the announcement page for updates.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is powered by Windows RT 8.1. It was one of the last products the company manufactured before selling its devices and phone unit to Microsoft. The deal is expected to close sometime later this month.

It's good to see they're being proactive and didn't wait until a few users started walking around with an unnatural afro hairstyle to do something about it.
