In a major boost to Samsung's efforts to expand in the enterprise market, the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), a joint activity of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), has approved and listed a number of its mobile devices on the Commercial Solutions for Classified program listing.
The devices that have been approved include the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition), Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Tab S 8.4, Galaxy Tab S 10.5, and the Galaxy IPSEC Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client.
All devices incorporate security features powered by Samsung Knox, a platform that lets people use their own smartphones for both work and personal purposes.
While CSfC listing means that these devices meet all security standards required to be considered by US government departments to handle all range of classified information, it doesn't guarantee large government deals for Samsung. Nonetheless, the thumbs up will definitely increase the company's appeal in the security-conscious business market.
"The inclusion of Samsung mobile devices on the CSfC list proves the unmatched security of Samsung Galaxy devices supported by the Knox platform", said Samsung CEO and president of IT and mobile business JK Shin.
Back in June this year, five of the Samsung's Galaxy-branded devices, including the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Note 3 smartphones, as well as a couple of tablets from the company's popular Galaxy Note lineup received approval from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), a part of the DoD which certifies commercial technology for defense use.
At present, Samsung is the only company listed on both CSfC and DISA.
