Nvidia announces Star Wars-themed Titan Xp Collector's Edition GPUs

Nvidia last week teased what appeared to be a Titan X Collector’s Edition graphics card. On Tuesday, we learned that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill special edition offering.

In partnership with Lucasfilm, Nvidia has created two new Star Wars Collector’s Edition GPUs that pay homage to the popular franchise.

On one hand, you’ve got the green-themed Jedi Order card that “simulates the wear and tear and battle-worn finish of many items used by the Rebel Alliance” complete with a die cast aluminum cover that’s been subjected to a corrosive salt spray.

Conversely, the Galactic Empire themed-card features a simple design with clean lines that emulates the “high-end, orderly nature of the resource-rich Empire.”

Nvidia says it took over a year to perfect each version.

The retail packaging is equally impressive and something you’ll most certainly want to hang on to or even display as part of your Star Wars collection. I’m not even a Star Wars fan but these are impressive looking for sure.

Branding aside, you’re getting a Titan Xp card with 3,840 CUDA cores running at 1.6GHz, and 12GB of GDDR5X memory running at 11.4Gbps.

Pre-orders open on November 8 at 6 a.m. Pacific ahead of a November 17 launch. Pricing is set at $1,200 with a limit of one per customer. Which side do you choose?

The center of the fan hubs have either the Alliance or Empire's symbol on it.

I suppose this might be good for a) those who have a mostly-glass case so that it's visible, b) have outfitted their case with other Star Wars-themed embellishments, & c) have the money to burn on a complete waste of cash.

What's up with NVIDIA as of lately. They could have lowered MSRPs to stay competitive instead of introducing the GTX 1070 Ti with better performance but still higher price than the VEGA 56, and that special edition is not attractive with the 1080 Ti in the market.

Well, they basically killed the market for the Titan when they released the 1080Ti.... but I guess they still had a bunch of unsold Titans in a warehouse....

Genius idea: Let's give them some new colours, a coat of paint, and stick on a Star Wars logo!! Oh.... then we'll charge $1200 per card

Can't blame Nvidia for trying... heck, I've seen morons fork over tens of thousands for diamond-studded smart phones....
