Rumor mill: If there's one thing that signals the upcoming release of a new generation of Nvidia graphics cards, it's Team Green ending production of its current-gen models. According to new reports, that's exactly what's happened with the majority of RTX 4000 GPUs. Only the AD107, which powers the RTX 4060 desktop and laptop cards and the mobile-only RTX 4050, is still being made.

It seems almost certain that Nvidia will unveil the RTX 5000 series of Blackwell gaming cards at CES at the start of January. In addition to the slew of rumors, CEO Jensen Huang is delivering the opening keynote, marking the first time he has appeared at the event since 2019.

According to a report on Board Channels (via Videocardz), Nvidia is now reallocating its production lines to focus on producing the RTX 5000 series. The company is said to have completely shut down the AD106 production line, the GPU used for the RTX 4060 AD106 variant, 4060 Ti, and 4070.

The closure means that AD102, 103, 104, and 106 production has now ended, leaving only the 107 line active. A look at the latest Steam survey shows that the RTX 4060 laptop GPU is the second-most-popular card among participants behind the RTX 3060. The desktop RTX 4060 ranks third, while the RTX 4050 is in twentieth place.

"The RTX 40 series has entered its final quarter of clearance, with mid-to-high-end RTX 40 GPUs gradually halting production and supply," states the Board Channels post.

It was reported in September that Nvidia was planning to end production of the AD102 chip, which is used in the RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D. These are the only Lovelace cards that are showing signs of low inventory right now.

Nvidia is expecting to launch the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 first, likely making them available at CES as soon as they're announced. With Nvidia ending production of almost all the current RTX 4000 cards, we might see the RTX 5070, 5060, and the others a lot sooner than expected. There are even rumors that Nvidia might break tradition by launching the RTX 5070 alongside the two top-end cards.

Good news guys, let's drink very healthy #NovemberNoAlcohol so that we can sell a kidney for the almighty 5090 xD

LOL $2K+ for 5090 and AIB's have said Nvidia is testing the waters for $2499.
Not that Nvid!ots will ever care, but RTX 8800XT is going to sell like hotcakes in the $600 price range.

5090? Massive pass on that overpriced bs. Im more curious about 5070. Me and 90% of the gamers. Do people honestly think 4090 is the most used card? Lol not even close.

NVidia - gladly keeping prices high through restricting supply and gouging our customers - especially gamers.

Genius move Nvidia, bravo! Take that average gamer waiting to get a mid-high range Lovelace card for whatever meagre clearance on Black Friday or Boxing Day!!!
That probably will make my old 1080 the only high end Nvidia card I purchased in the past decade (2017) and most likely the next one.

For the past few gens (except 4xxx which I skipped) I always wait for the xx80ti card. Sometimes almost a year after the regular xx80 release.

They are still expensive, but having owned the GTX 1080ti (fabulous card) and now the ROG Strix RTX 3080ti gaming OC, which is excellent. It has an extra 50watt so runs up to 450watt, and except for memory (It has only 12GB) it comes close to RTX 3090, only cheaper.

The various vendors have also had time to perfect their cooling solutions for said gen.

That particular RTX 3080ti beats the RTX 4070 on the Furmark GL and VK 1 minute 1440p bench. I bench it regularly and while it is destroyed by the RTX 4090, and is markedly slower than the RTX 4080, I am still very happy with it, and as I game at 1440p my card still manages great with all games I own.

Of course it's Ray tracing isn't as good, but subjectively I don't feel I'm missing out.

I just hope there is a 5080ti at some later point. A year later new games will need more than the RTX 3XXX series can provide running at high or ultra.

Also impressed with the New Playstation Pro 5. Haven't consoled since the 360, but thinking about it.
A year I'll either go PS5 Pro or RTX 5080ti. It will come down to cost mainly. As everyone alludes too, these up coming 5080 and 5090 are likely to be insanely priced if history is anything to go by. Hence the idea of moving gaming to my TV and going "console." (LG C2 4k OLED 48") Keep current PC and 27" monitor for everything PC - except gaming. It's a thought.

I know the majority of gamers are unlikely to use a similar stategy, but it's worked well for me.
I am not recommending folks do that. So many variables. Like, when to upgrade, price, - is the ti a decent improvement on the non ti. etc etc.

Still, it's worked out well for me.
