Nvidia may have RTX 5000 Super GPUs ready, but costly 3GB GDDR7 is holding them back

At a time when components already cost a fortune as AI hyperscalers snap up all the DRAM and NAND manufacturing capacity, releasing RTX 5000 Super cards with comically high price tags isn't going to prove popular.

Whales would still buy a 5080 24GB for, say, $3.5-4.5k just because they can.

The new Super cards will -ofc- also be popular with AI bros running LLM's so I predict that we will see again people fist-fighting with each other at Microcenter to grab a 5080 24GB.

I don't think we will ever see a 5050 9GB though. RIP.
 
The card that needs those 3 GB chips the most is the 5060, which is the one that is crippled by its measly 8 GB of VRAM. A 12 GB version of it would be a huge improvement for gaming but little improvement for AI usage. The 5070 would also benefit from it, to a lower extent. Anything beyond that is a mistake.
rtx 6000 with 96GB proves you wrong.

And, at the same time, it is the reason why the price of GDDR7 modules is so high.
 
One of the worst things that ever happened was consumer cards going over 8GB VRAM. It's not like games look significantly better today than they did a decade ago, yet for some reason 16GB is mandatory?
8GB may or may not be enough for game assets.
But ...
System ates 0.5~0.7GB. Add into mix things like upscaling, RT, ray reconstruction, frame gen, some AI ... and "sudenly" there are only 6GB or even less left for game assets.

It's ridiculous. Staying at 8GB might have forced the devs to actually optimize their games!

Only optimization we got (to this time) are measures cut assets size down using whatever reasonable, less reasonable and totally unreasonable way they could. Lowering details, dropping rendered resolution on fly, dropping texture quality, dropping textures completely, ... and many more.

Some optimization would be fine.
I just outgrew my expectations that some game producing company would pay team of developer for 3~6 more months just ta made game fit into 8GB for players who would wait till game comes into sale.
 
7700x3D or even 7500x3D may do the trick too.
The 77x3d is realistically only like $20 cheaper than the 78x3d, but 8 cores is king of the minimum no, especially since I like to get about 5 years out of my builds. I also like to play around with VMs and do some productivity work so 8 cores is the floor for me. Zen6 is supposed to have 12 core chiplets so its my opinion that we will start seeing games taking advantage of more cores. AI in games (as in enemy and npc AI) is going to be using modern AI models in the next 5 years and that will require more cores.

Its not really, to be honest they actually manufacture everything much cheapers, the problem is the top tech companies say "Lets rips these id1ots a new 1, they can't argue, lets hope they don't revolte and stop buying our ****"..... and so that is why, thats why
 
My GTX780Ti Windows XP and RTX3080 Windows 7 retro gaming PCs never looked more appealing.
Add to that a collection of 1600+ games from the past 30 years.
I am absolutely ready to not spend a single cent for at least 10 years, if needed.
I hope AI flops so bad, that buries everyone involved in this bubble for good.
Also hope for China to pull off and take the world lead for memory chips.
