Nvidia reportedly refused some neoclouds access to GTC Berlin for adding AMD and TPU chips

Rumor mill: Analysts with SemiAnalysis have uncovered what could be another troubling trend in the AI hardware industry. Nvidia is reportedly retaliating against some "neocloud" providers for integrating GPUs and other chips from rival manufacturers into their cloud offerings.

SemiAnalysis' latest "shocking" rumor allegedly confirms what the firm had already revealed in June. Several neocloud providers have reportedly been denied access to GTC Berlin, Nvidia's upcoming conference covering AI, GPUs, and related technologies. The Jensen Huang-led company apparently disapproves of cloud providers adding AMD GPUs, TPUs, and other third-party silicon to their offerings, and is making it harder for them to attend one of the industry's most important events.

Hyperscalers have apparently been spared Nvidia's "punishment" because they wield considerably more purchasing power than neocloud providers. The term neocloud is gaining traction as a way to describe a specific category of modern cloud providers that offer specialized IT infrastructure designed to efficiently handle AI workloads.

According to SemiAnalysis, neocloud providers are feeling Nvidia's pressure as the GPU maker attempts to discourage them from adopting competing GPU and AI hardware. The situation is reportedly so tense that some neocloud providers are now deploying AMD-based solutions without publicizing the move. This "quiet" approach might help them avoid further retaliation from Nvidia.

SemiAnalysis first disclosed Nvidia's alleged tactics earlier this year. At the time, the "silicon intelligence" company stated that Nvidia was punishing neocloud providers by withholding early allocations of upcoming chips. Financial support for IPOs and capital-raising initiatives was also reportedly at risk of drying up. Nvidia has directly funded some neocloud providers, which is why some observers have dismissed SemiAnalysis' latest claims as a non-story.

Nvidia launched its GTC conference in 2009, bringing together engineers, researchers, and developers for an event that has since become heavily focused on AI. Some observers also argue that the Santa Clara-based company is entitled to decide whom it invites to its own conference.

Nvidia has repeatedly faced accusations of abusing its dominant position in the GPU market to disadvantage competitors. In 2024, a former AMD GPU chief accused the company of behaving like a "GPU cartel" by delaying shipments to data centers, OEMs, and even resellers.

The AI boom is turning GPUs and other specialized accelerators into highly sought-after hardware. AMD is also benefiting from the trend, particularly in the data center market, where GPU manufacturers continue to struggle to meet demand from hyperscalers and other cloud providers.

Nvidia gonna be really mad when everyone starts receiving delivery of their AI ASICs. I believe Meta, Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceX, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung are all designing their own
Yes. The problem invidious has is that the hardware is essentially quite 'simple'. (Clearly it's not simple at all it's very complex, but I mean really it's very easy to replicate). There's an awful lot of it but it is massively repetitive. Just huge chunks of parallel executing cores (CUDA/Stream Processor for GPUs and Tensor for AI) running under a whole load of Multi Processors. If you look at GPUs both AMD and Intel were able to make hardware fairly competitively it was the software that held them back. But in the world of LLMs that software doesn't really exist and all people want is raw matrix processing. CUDA Cores/Stream Processors can do this but the much simpler Tensor Cores which are essentially just the Matrix Transform units from these more complex cores are what AI models really want so it's even easier for them to be duplicated.

This sounds pretty infantile to be true, so with 99.9% certainty it's BS.

Nvidia "punished" some companies by ... denying them access to a public conference.
Seriously?

Don't think it stops there, Huawei and Alibaba are cooking up their own stuff as well iirc and there's probably more.

NVIDIA's got the devils luck though.
Gaming sales starting to level off?
Cryptoboom makes line go up
Software investment in CUDA starting to pay off.
Cryptoboom round 2.
COVID sales.
AI Jackpot.

At this point they got almost all their eggs in the AI Datacenter (mostly hyperscaler) basket, so my guess is that as soon as the hyperscalers figure out how to sideline NVIDIA... they pivot to on device AI. Get NVIDIA arm chips into every desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone.
On the bright side, if they aim for the 'regular' consumer at least we're competing with eachother to buy rather than investors with seemingly the worlds deepest pockets.

I wouldn't be so certain about NV, they're doing some weird stuff. I don't think they would have released their AI laptops if the hyperscaler market was still doing great. And the cooling of sales on gaming hardware is mostly their fault. They kept the cost per frame the same. There was zero reason to get a 50 series card unless your card died or you needed the 5090.

Most companies don't abandon other markets just because one is doing well.

Nvidia isn't being "weird", it's the internet full of random commenters who have never runs business thinking they know how to run a business better then one of the richest men on earth.

Being rich does not automatically make you qualified for anything. Maybe a loan, but his wealth is intangible wealth. If he sold off all his stock and tried to cash out then the stock price of nVidia would plummet. I also don't think a man telling people to get a job at a spa if AI takes it should be cited as someone more knowledgeable than the average person.

I'm pretty sure that the man who built nVidia from nothing into one of the highest valuation companies on earth, which has a dominant position in multiple sectors of the tech industry and is powering datacenters around the world; and whose "intangible wealth" allows him to own supercars, mega mansions, jet around the world and meet with various world leaders, and lead a life of absolute luxury, knows A BIT MORE about running a business then *checks notes* an anonymous TechSpot commenter named yRaz who seethes about how he cant buy a 5090 for $500.

You can play the "pretending to not understand the argument to make conversation impassible" card all you want, the fact Jensen built a multi trillion dollar empire speaks far louder as to his qualifications as a business man then your comments ever could.

You look at Jensen and see a self-made billionaire. I look at him and see a fraud. There are people who look at him and see Einstein, I see Madoff. The interesting thing is that we are so close to the crash that we wont have to wait long to see it.

I said this bubble would pop by October, obviously I'm wrong in that regard. However, I think the things going on with Oracle and Cloudflare speak for themselves. Both are considered near garbage status in the bond market and CloudFlare is basically just a debt vehicle for nVidia to sell all it's unsold GPUs to.

He is only one of the most valuable men in the world if we go on stock price. There is a common phrase that loosely goes "the only people who get rich during a gold rush are the people selling picks and shovels" That's what nVidia is doing right now. What's important to note is that there is hundreds of billions of dollars of AI hardware sitting in warehouses around the world.

Maybe I am some fool who posts on some website, but I am not yelling at the clouds for no reason like a crazy person. I'm terrified that the economic games that nVidia is playing is going to destroy my retirement accounts. This fear is not unfounded. I watched someone close to me work until 72 because of the damage that happened during the 2008 financial crash.

I don't talk about this stuff to just argue as some pleb on an internet forum. I'm talking about this because I am absolutely terrified that greedy dumbasses are going to erase the last 20 years I invested into my retirement.
