Nvidia's RTX 5090 might feature two 16-pin power connectors, requiring a new PSU

Sounds like a lack of planning or understanding on the engineer's part .... unless of course the management decided to interfere and not listen to their own experts .... I'm betting on the 2nd alternative .....
If this turns out to be true (the MSI PSU thing doesn't necessarily have anything to do with RTX 5090 - but it could)
Then I also bet on your "2nd alternative...", Uncle AI.

NV haven't shown much interest in gamers since AI is now there main business segment. They can't even get their act together with drivers. I'm on 551.86 which is the only 2024 driver that is solid and stable with my Rog Strix RTX 3080ti gaming OC. Infact I don't even bother to try new drivers anymore. (Yeah, it's an "old," card I know).

It' a sad reflection on the company that established it's self as a GPU/gamer GPU company. Obviously a business is there to make money - and for now at least NV are raking it in with their A.I business.

But I would have thought they could afford to at least keep a decent level of investment in their original gaming division. Someone else mentioned sticking the the RTX 4xxx 5nm lithography. Another case in point, going with the newer 3nm lithograpy would be a true jump in performance, while not requiring a huge increase in power. Not to mention the kind of cooling that such a powerful card speculated will need with the same 5nm as the RTX 4xxx.
