PlayStation 6 bill of materials nears $1,000 as RAM shortages worsen

As you can see, no point engaging with him; he's disingenuous as h3ll. I found that out when he first tried to convince me the Steam Machine isn't worth it because it couldn't support a disc drive, oh wait, no, a disc drive is supported, but can only take up the 1 and only USB-C slot....... Even though you can get a USB-A disc drive if you reeeaaally needed it...

But yeah, the fact that it can run thousands of games, including oldies, as a console-like PC is more than worth considering it for people. Especially those that don't want to tinker on a PC.
Heck, you even have the freedom to install whatever OS on it if you really want/need.
Can you please show me the required USB 3.1 gen 1 USBA port on the rear or the steam machine please. Or are you just going to shut up and slink away like the last time I asked you?

If you want to call people disingenuous maybe look at yourself first.

Pay per hour becomes more and more logical. With hardware costing so much, it is a luxury to have your console be used only few hours a day. It must be used 24/7 to justify its price.
Do not sell consoles, sell access to them.

To that I say if you are willing to rent or subscribe, consider the 0% credit card x 21 options which comes out to be $48 per month x21 payments to own the ps6. Or you can go with slightly better PC today with 9070xt and 9800x3d prebuilt for $96 per month x21 payments to ownership1000068475.jpg.

Why can't they just wait it out for another couple of years. There's nothing wrong with that. Maybe the AI bubble might burst. The PS5 is an incredible machine still capable of doing amazing things I believe, especially when it comes to hardware level optimizations, the PC doesn't have.

This is the ideal scenario for all the tech companies.
They'll drive prices so high people can't afford their own hardware.
Then charge a fairly cheap cloud compute/gaming plan to people.
They'll get hooked like they have to streaming services...
Then they will crank the prices...

It's the same model they always use and people are so dumb they'll fall for it.

PS5 and XSX is 7 years old. Next gen needs to come out next year. Regardless of price.

Once you see GTA 6 run at (up to) 30 fps, even on PS5 Pro, due to weak CPU, you will see what I mean.

Zen 5/6 and RDNA 5 is needed in 2027-2028.

The RAM cartel continue to artificially limit supply and price-fix. They were fined for doing this before, but seems they are happy to do it again. Come on China get that DDR-5 RAM production ramped up and wipe these c**ts off the map.

$1,000 is way too expensive for a console, though with everyone pushing for AI including politicians, and the ram cartel colluding and price fixing again, a PS5 could be over $1,000.
Game devs need to better optimize for the hardware instead, the market for a $1,000+ console would be very low.

The PS5 is still a very capable machine, and developers are continuing to squeeze more out of it through better engine optimization and upscaling techniques. Sony doesn't have to rush the PS6 out the door if memory prices are still inflated.

Even if AI demand cools somewhat, the major cloud providers have already invested enormous amounts into AI infrastructure, and memory vendors are making far better margins selling enterprise memory than consumer DRAM. There's no guarantee RAM prices suddenly return to where they were a few years ago.

Delaying the PS6 by a year to avoid launching into a memory shortage makes sense. Delaying it by two or three years hoping the market fixes itself is a much bigger gamble, especially if Microsoft keeps moving forward with its next Xbox.

There's also the consumer side of it. A lot of people always feel they need the latest and greatest hardware as soon as it's available, but the reality is the PS5 is still capable of delivering fantastic games. If Sony can extend its lifespan another year while avoiding a much higher launch price for the PS6, that could actually benefit the majority of gamers.

I think there will be a lower spec ps6 "portable" for around $700 / more than Switch prices. Alongside, or within 6 months a ps6 "deck" machine for around $1000.

Everyone will buy these consoles in massive numbers on expectation of prices of these consoles being priced even higher in 12-36 months time. Building your own pc for $1500 won't even be considered.

There's a big difference between B.O.M. and manufacturing costs(which is around around 50% more).
If Sony doesn't majorly subsidize it, the PS6 could cost between 1500 and 2000$.
