PC restarting -- already dusted and scanned for viruses

hi all
ok i have a computer tower here and it is shutting down and restarting ???
1 i cleaned it out free from dust and re-pasted the cpu
2 did a quick virus scan
so what can it be it runs ok in save mode
can i get a xp repair disc that won't wipe my programmes / data
but will fix the os

You could try 'Start', 'cmd' (right-click 'Run as administrator')
type 'chkdsk /f'
Then 'Y' . Exit the DOS box. Restart pc. Leave it for an hour while it checks the O/S.

No, the 'chkdsk' commands, (there are several) are part of windows O/S, built in, so can only do 'good'. you cannot do any damage. The chkdsk /f can take some time to complete, so just let it run, it will restart the pc when finished.
