PC starts up gives options then restarts

Hi im not sure if im posting this in the right section, im not sure what exactlys wrong with my desktop computer, it starts up and comes to a black screen with 3 options i cant remember what they say as i dont have a monitor atm,and have also tryed using a laptop to get to the screen but had no luck :/

the three options as far as i remember was start in safe mode,restart? and i cannot remember the third. but no matter which one i select my computer will just restart itsself again, and so on... a endless cycle

What OS are you using?

I suggest that you boot from the OS CD / DVD and try a Repair Install of the OS or a clean format.

sorry, using windows xp home edition, yeah thats something im going to give a try once ive got a monitor, just wonderd if there was another reason behind it, from what ive been reading it could be any number of things : /

Try pressing F8 to bring up a longer list of options.
Select 'Disable restart on system failure' and see what the blue screen error is.
