PC update process?

I have just upgraded my HP/Compaq presario from 2GB RAM to 4GB and am thinking about upgrade HDrive SSHD foe max speed/storage. any input would be appreciated!

Hi I prefer to let Crucial tell me how much RAM to install.

My computer started out with 4 GBs RAM.
I let the Crucial scanner determine what I needed.
I could only have 8 GBs RAM total so I added 4 more GBs.
Worked good.
No problems.
