Solved Pretty bad virus, possibly rootkits and trojans

So my buddy at work asked if I knew how to fix virus problems, and since I had such a great experience with this forum last time for MY computer, I told him that I'd try the same thing for his. I don't really know the history with this Dell laptop but what he told me was that all of his programs would instantly shut down and sometimes re-direct him to other places. I immediately booted the computer in safe mode and started putting the programs on it to fix it, so I haven't really seen what it's been doing. Anyways, here's the logs.

Also, and I can NOT figure this out for the life of me, but for some reason, this computer will NOT get on the internet, wireless OR hard-wired. It'll connect to my router, constantly show a stable connection, but no browser will actually launch, none of them. It just shows a page as if there was no connection, but it's definitely connected. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

When done....

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
2. Close any open browsers.
3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
   • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
   • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
   NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
   NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
   • Close any open browsers.
   • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
   • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

Ok, I went in to delete Microsoft Security Essentials and it said there was an error because it had already been deleted so I'm not sure what's up there, but I removed what was there.

Yeah, that was my bad, I defintiely meant "uninstall," and not "delete" (you gotta' give me some credit here, lol) but here's the thing. I went to "Programs & Features" to uninstall both Microsoft Security Essentials, AND AskBarDis but they're simply not there, so I went into the program files to see if they had an uninstall feature, and it's not working so I'm not sure how to get rid of that stuff.

1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.

2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Disable your active antivirus program.
2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.

Clean up with OTL:

* On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
* Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

If you still have any tools or logs leftover on your computer you can go ahead and delete those off of your computer now.

Awesome!! Thank you so much for the help. I won't be able to do the rest until tomorrow because I'm going out of town today (I'm posting this from my phone), but I'm still curious as to how I can delete the Windows Essentials Security, the little icon at the bottom keeps coming up but its not in the "add/remove programs" area. Any thoughts?

Where exactly can you see it? I thought, I removed most of it. Possibly, I missed something.

One other thing you can try is to reinstall MSE and try to uninstall it again.

Ok, so i tried to reinstall MSE and it said that there was an error and couldn't install so I'm not sure what's up there. Also, when I was working on that, the MSE fake-looking window popped up again, said there were trojans that it was removing and all that jazz (I ran MBAM again just to be sure and it said that all was fine.) Do we need to remove some more stuff? Before, I could see the little MSE shield in the icon tray but it's not there anymore.

1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
2. Close any open browsers.
3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
   • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
   • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
   NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.

• Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
• Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
• A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

2. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.


3. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Disable your active antivirus program.
2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:

• Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs

  [*] Mail databases

6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.
