Hi (once again...)

I have some problems playing bf2 on my computer. I can stay on a server for 2-10min and then I get kicked by punkbuster (scr shot attached).

Any Ideas?

P.S. This is on w7hp

Hi Dj,

Appears that something of yours is blocking one of PB services (likely PnkBsrtB.exe) which is resulting in these kicks. PB is really touchy and complains about a lot of things so just double check that nothing is blocking its communication. Here is a post I found from a community manager of a PB game.

Users that are getting kicked for "Service Communication Failure" (including the handshake failure type) have some other software that is blocking the PunkBuster services.

Some users have previously disabled the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBsrtB.exe services in the past, and these services are now mandatory.

If the services are stopped/disabled, then PB will kick from this point forward.

Sometimes it is an anti-virus program (like an old version of McAfee Security Center), sometimes it is a personal firewall that are blocking the services. Any user who is getting kicked for this will have to stop whatever is blocking PB or configure the program to allow the two services.

The below link is a tool provided by PunkBuster that will help users who need to reinstall the services:

http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

If the above PBSVC program does not pass all the tests, please ensure that any installed firewalls or other programs are not blocking the PnkBstrA/B services.

If that still does not do the trick, please open a ticket with PunkBuster here:
http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=support.php and be sure to paste the log from the PBSVC program within the ticket, and EvenBalance support should be able to help you in identifying what programs are blocking the services.

Punkbuster A and B should be are allowed to connect to private networks and public...but I'll check the links when I get home so I guess I'll be back later to report on this one :D

pbsvc.exe...sayd that it finished with no errors and then I allowed pnkbsrtrA to get access to private & public networks (again)...it worked for a while but when I want to go to a Ranked server i get spawn by getting kicked :D ...or it's actually not so funny...
But anyway, I'll tri bf2142 now and see what it does...

Same problem with battlefield 2142

Punkbuster is a piece of ****, I don't buy anymore games with it.

Too many hoops and loops to jump through when the game should be playable from the get go.

VAC never has problems like this.

Now I have reinstalled the games, reinstalled pb, uppdated pc & the games but still same sh*t...
I guess I just have to go back to WinXP...

VAC doesn't get all the cheaters & glitchers...and what games is there that you can compare with bf2 and bf2142?

VAC gets everything. It just doesn't ban right away to prevent cheaters from figuring out if their hacks and bots work.

I can compare games that work, how about that? Enjoy your 2 minute playing sessions.

I just had a 1h bf2 playing session...bet when it loaded a new map it faild...again...
Well do that...cs s*cks...dod and hl2dm I can play some times...and then what..?

OK DJ if PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBsrtB.exe are both allowed try the following. Go to your game icon (not the shortcut), select properties > compatibility tab > check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" XP SP2 > then in privilege level check "Run this program as an administrator" & hit apply. Hopefully this will do the trick for ya.

Imo, VAC has its own sets of issues which is a bit disappointing but definitely better then PB in some areas. The PC gaming community really needs a new standard for cheat protection.

Ever try Red Orchestra?

It's like Call of Duty and Battlefield with realism turned up to 11.

cod and moh ain't my thing...I'm more war games from "now days" (don't know how to say it) and slightly futuristic...like bf2142...and star wars is a but to much... xD
moh is frustrating...that's the closest word I can find that would be good explanation...
cod is just not me...
I Like bf because: Team-play, wide selection of vehicles, u can rush / camp (sniper) / sabotage (ex. artillery / uav) / basically you can do anything you want...

Red Orchestra is about as team oriented as it gets, but it's set in Russia during WWII, then there are standalone mods set in Africa(British vs. German) and Western Europe (U.S. vs. German).

It would blow Battlefield out of the water if it wasn't because most people can stomach not being able to dolphin dive, bunny hop, or quick-snipe everything in sight.

Also, tanks require 2-3 people to use effectively.

Nope...I have (almost) from the beginning had the shortcuts privileges set and now I tried to do it directly to the .exe file but no changes...and the same goes for bf2142, no matter what u do it won't work

There should be a vista & w7 patch or something...could it maybe have something to do with the driectX? -when vista & w7 has dx10 and WinXP has 9....

I'll get an other hdd and install WinXP on it and try again...there shouldn't be anything wrong with this copy of w7, it's real / genuine, recently installed and I take good care of it (no haxx no porn or stuff like that). If it works on WinXP we know that there is nothing wron with the computer (hw)

I don't think there is a specific patch for Vista/7, but double check to make sure you have the latest patch needed. And I'm pretty sure it's not a DX issue, since you should just be running off DX9.

These errors are almost always caused by having something like a firewall block PB's communication hence http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe which should reinstall and get everything running. Have you tried playing without a firewall, everything open and directly connected to your modem just to test if something might be blocking it?

If your positive it's not a blocking problem it's usually a privilege/compatibility problem which is common in Vista/7 and changing those should fix it. But in your case there must be something else and I'm not sure what it could be. You could try to contact Evenbalance but I doubt they'll say anything that hasn't already been suggested. Your best bet might be looking for help from a Battlefield 2 community site who might have different suggestions/solutions. I know Battlefield 2 works in Vista/7 as I have friends who play it regularly, but in your case I don't know what the problem is and I'm out of ideas :(.
