Quad-core CPUs, Nvidia GPUs and Windows 10 reign supreme in latest Steam Survey

Unfortunately this is only steam stats. We have no idea if gamers are leaving to play on Origin or Battle.net so we honestly don't know if it dropped or not. Would of been awesome to see Steam's player count in the same period of time.

Regardless Nvidia seems to have a lot to lose once RX Vega comes out. Will be the first GPU that can actually compete in a very long time. Their monopoly may be coming to end soon.

As for CPU stats. Doesn't mean much to me. I run an I7, but holding out for threadripper. I can't stand price gouging intel anymore.

And before any fool starts kicking and screaming fanboy, these are my stats.

Vega wont be anything TOO special and obviously Nvidia already has an answer as the 1080 and Pascal architecture are already a year old. You forget that AMD does compete right now in the mid to low range market....but I dont see ANY 480/580 or 470/570 on that list....thats rediculous. More people using a gtx 660 than any RX card??
I don't trust in these statics...
I totally agree about the GPU stats. More people using old outdated underpowered Nvidia cards than RX 470/570/480/580? That's really hard to believe.

My system has an AMD FX 6300 with a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 GPU. It plays every game very well at 1080p which is all I need. When I upgrade, which probably won't be for another year or two, I will definitely go all AMD again with a Ryzen 6 or 8 core, probably the same GPU, and some faster RAM probably increased to 16GB over my current 8.

I totally agree

It would appear so yes, but wouldn't you be tempted to flip your RX card to a miner for more than you paid for it? I have a strong suspicion this is why they don't make the list, too many have ended up in mining rigs, resulting in a heavily favored chart for Nvidia.
Never done any mining and have no interest in it.

This is why these surveys should be taken with a grain of salt, also despite older cards being slower than these newer cards for most people that's enough for the games they play. Not as many people as you seem to believe run out and buy the newest and fastest available card every 6-12 months, which these RX cards aren't even anyways, they're mid range cards. Anyone with a top of the line card from the last couple of years is still better off with what they have instead of throwing down a bunch of cash for what may or may not be a worthwhile upgrade.

Never told anyone to go do it, just my suspicion as to where all these cards are ending up seeing as they don't show up on the Steam survey.

Just because you don't like their results doesn't mean you should discount the survey's findings. The orange highlighted statement is not accurate considering that the GTX 1050, 1050 Ti, and 1060 (all mid-range cards) all came out after the RX 480 but still have percentages in the steam survey.

While the Steam Survey may not be the most accurate measure it's still one of the best tools we have to view this kind of data.

"Nvidia seems to have a lot to lose once RX Vega comes out"

Isn't that just a bit premature, considering that no one yet knows how they will perform- other than a bit of hype from AMD themselves?

"I totally agree about the GPU stats. More people using old outdated underpowered Nvidia cards than RX 470/570/480/580? That's really hard to believe."

Are you suggesting that Steam is lying to "keep AMD down"? Would that benefit Steam in some way?

Your 6300 is choking your 470 badly in CPU intensive games even as old as Borderlands 1. Your minimum frames are bad in any game, not just CPU intensive ones. I know becuase I had a 6300 years ago too and it was choking my gtx 660 at the time
