It's the Gigabyte G1 model, not the FE. Sorry I should have noted that in the graph or system specs. The focus was more on the GTX 1070, 980 Ti and Fury X.

It's always impressive to me watching how well AMD cards have aged these past few years. Remember when the 980ti was always a better pick? Based on these graphs though, I'd say they are in a dead heat.

^That's what I got from this. After all if you have a 980 Ti or Fury from bloody 2015, 2016 brought near zero performance increases.

Just add like 10% at most. Pascal's 16nm doesn't overclock nearly as well as Maxwell on 28nm.

I believe that the 1080 was an increase over the 980ti (techpowerup is not available ATM) albeit not one to justify the price to upgrade.

Here's hoping that Vega remedies that this year.

Define "vastly". 1070s start at $400 typically on newegg, and go up from there. At their peak, the fury x and 980ti were $650 cards. The fury X slots in along the 980ti, a card it used to loose to, and now performs as well as nvidia's second best card (excluding the stupid price titan).

So a year and a half later, the same performance still costs over $400. Sounds like the fury x held it's place pretty well. It's been pretty good for a halo card. It's not a true stand in for a proper polaris or vega based 490, of course, but given amd's position., I'm amazed at how well it has aged compared to, say, the 780ti.

Question I have is the GTX 1070 Overclocked any? From all the Benchmarks that came out last June GTX 1070 was faster than GTX 980TI. Base Speed to Base Speed. So Logic would tell you if you overclock the GTX 1070 and GTX 980TI GTX 1070 would still be faster in most benchmarks. Also newer generation Card.

I have soft space for Fury X, its so outrageous with its water cooling, HBM and small factor card. But make no mistake, 980-Ti is better card, simple as that. Its the 290X/390X that are true champions, they are actually 2013 tech and still are holding its own. Where are nVidias Keples in newer games? At the bottom of the graphs, that is where! And I know it, cause I own one of those (GeForce 780).

I have a fairly regular setup - a PC monitor as standard, plus a 4K TV panel as a secondary monitor.

And for that reason a card without HDMI 2.0 is strictly a Nay for me.

I bought the 980 Ti Gigabyte G1 in Sept of 2015, still have it and it runs everything more than fine at 1440p on an Acer Gsynch 1440p IPS monitor.

It isn't worth upgrading to anything else right now.

Personally, I am waiting for Volta to come out and will probably pick that card up.

Pascal overclocks bad in comparison with Maxwell.

A fully clocked 1070 loses to a fully clocked 980 Ti in 9 out of 10 games.

Custom 980 Ti beats Custom 1070 out of the box.

Difference between 1070 Founders Edition and 1070 custom cards are only like 5-8%. They are already maxed out pretty much. Difference between 980 Ti Reference and 980 Ti Custom is close to 20% almost regardless of card brand.

This is pretty common knowledge and you can see alot of comparisons on OC forums.

980 Ti rapes Fury X when both are overclocked.

I'm trying to glean from all of this data a good performance graphics card for a home built PC (in planning).
I want something that will perform well without having to overclock to be able run most Steam games.
Trying of course to keep the budget in mind.

Wrong. 980 Ti OC beats Fury X OC alot. As you can see. Who runs high end GPU's at stock?

Custom 980 Ti is like 20% faster than Reference 980 Ti. Techspot uses a reference card.

Custom 980 Ti has always been, and will always be faster than Fury X in 99% of games.

I don't follow every detail but I knew Pascal was clocked higher from the factory and closer to its max, but I still thought you could achieve a 10% OC with a 1070.

This is pretty common knowledge and you can see alot of comparisons on OC forums.

I just bought a new in box 980 TI for $320 like 4 months ago. Works great for 2560x1080. Overclocks like a champ too. Pretty happy with my purchase.
