Repair windows

I am running vista from a dell inspiron 1525 and am wondering if i can do a windows repair from the recovery partition or if i need the disk

I think you would probably need an actual vista disc to be able to repair. The recovery partition is like a recovery CD that you would get with a new pc and would just revert your computer back to the way it was out of the box (If I am not mistaken)
