Restart at boot

About 50% of the time, my system will get part way through the boot process and then reboot. After the reboot, everything seems to work fine. I didn't do anything significant to my system prior to the start of this issue.

I've done a virus scan and found nothing.

After a reboot, Windows offers to send an error report to MS. Here's what it contains:
BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: A83E733D
BCP3: A5170B0C
BCP4: 00000000
OSVer: 5_1_2600
SP: 3_0
Product: 768_1

I've checked the Event Log and I get 2 Event ID 7000 on every boot and reboot.
One is:
The adfs service failed to start because the system couldn't find to file
The other:
The NetBEUI Protocol failed to start because the system couldn't find to file

I checked the MS tech info and was advised to do an sc query.
The results for sc query adfs are:
Type: 1 Kernel_Driver
State: 1 Stopped
(not stoppable, not pausable, ignores)shutdown)
WIN32_Exit_Code: 2 (0x2)
Service_Exit_Code: 0 (0x0)
Checkpoint: 0x0
Wait_hint: 0x0

The results for sc query NetBEUI are:
[SC] EnumQueryServiceStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

I'm using Win XP SP3 fully updated.

I have a 1TB HDD which is less than 50% full.
I have 2GB of RAM and am using 729 MB as I type this message.

I'm pretty good with the computer but I've reached the limit of my ability on this issue.

Any suggestions?

Go into System, Advanced, Advanced, Start up and Recovery and un-check automatic restart and time to display operating systems. Next get into My Computer and right-click on the C drive, click tools... Schedule a disk check on the next start up

Thank-you for the suggestion Tmagic650.

However, the problem disappeared before I got around to following your advice.

I'll keep a note of your suggestion in case it returns.

Thanks again,
