Russia tests cutting itself off from the rest of the internet, most VPNs fail to bypass restrictions

China has spent about 200 times that amount on the same goal, and maintains an army of several hundred thousand Internet censors, something to which Russia has so far not done. China also heavily restricts VPN use -- as does Egypt, India, Jordan US ally Oman, and NATO member Turkey.
They also have an army of disinformation spreaders who pose as Americans on websites to convince the gullible of political issues that weaken America.

I remember how we used to get Voice of America and Radio Free Europe back in Communist Romania. The authorities tried their darnedest to jam or disrupt those stations to no avail. Information will still flow in and the Kremlin will be powerless to stop it. Sure, they will make owning a radio illegal but that never stopped anyone during Nazi Germany or Stalinist USSR.
USSR 2.0 will eventually fail, like the original USSR did. How many will die before that happens is anyone’s guess.
It is the same old problem when you are trying to not hear what other people say, but still have intent to be heard. They are all the same, and that is the reason you can still access everything you need with some work living in one of these countries.
