It’s common knowledge that Russian hackers attempted to interfere with the US electoral system last year, but it seems the true extent of those attacks is only now being revealed. According to a new report by Bloomberg, a total of 39 states were targeted – double the number that was previously reported.

Citing people “with direct knowledge of the US investigation” into the Russian hacks, Bloomberg reveals that one of the states – Illinois – saw the perpetrators gain access to the voter database and compromise as many as 90,000 records.

The situation was so bad that it led to then-president Barack Obama directly complaining to Vladimir Putin on the “red phone,” a cyber-hotline set up in 2013 by both presidents designed to de-escalate cyber conflict between the two countries.

Thirty-seven other states reported finding traces of hacker intrusions, including the critical election systems of both Florida and California. While not all of these represented a compromise, it shows the sheer scope of the Russian’s operation.

The news comes after a top-secret NSA report leaked last week. It revealed that Russian military intelligence launched a hacking campaign against at least one US voting software supplier and sent spear-phishing emails to over 100 local election officials.

There’s still no evidence that the hackers were able to alter the vote counts or election results in any states, or tamper with the voting machines. It seems they either took note of Obama’s warning or the numerous different systems used by each state prevented them from altering the outcomes.

The Kremlin has long denied trying to influence the US election, though Putin recently said that “patriotic hackers” may have meddled in the process.

What the citizens and population of a country wants and needs doesn't count in the slightest, it's what the opposition wants is all that counts. It doesn't take a genius to know that Trump is an unwanted and poor fit in the Whitehouse but that's besides the point in the greater scheme of things.

It's common knowledge that this is bullshit.
The only way for a Democrat to lose a major election is for a Republican to cheat. This is the way of the world, comrade.

Putin was probably laughing his *ss off!
If the Russians hacked the election, it would be to HELP Hillary, not Trump!

Presbo: You're crossing a line here.

Putin: hahaha

Presbo: What's so funny?

Putin: hahaha... what color is it?

Presbo: I don't get...oh. That's mean, dude.

Trump is the first president elected by Russian hackers, who made sure the worst candidate wins. It was Putin's intention all along to crown a complete muppet, so the world stops taking the US seriously, to be one less threat to Putin's empire. Evidently, it worked.
I think the scarier thing is ~20% of the country is ok with this as long as it suits them.

Terrifying...

This also got to me, it's definitely bullshit. So...
Bloomberg reveals that one of the states – Illinois – saw the perpetrators gain access to the voter database and compromise as many as 90,000 records
There’s still no evidence that the hackers were able to alter the vote counts or election results in any states, or tamper with the voting machines.
So let's get the facts straight: it's common knowledge, there is information about it happening, there is no evidence... how the duck is it?!

Also, it would be super simple for the liberal media to pin it on Russia just to get the word out and the complaining against Trump ignited even more.

Muppet? More like crash test dummy. But since crash test dummies are loaded with smart sensors these days, I suppose Muppet is more apt.

Liberal media. There's an over-used term these days.

What is comical is this. *****s are acting like this is something that doesn't go on daily. The biggest countries (and even smaller ones) countries in the digital age are constantly being "targeted and attempted to be hacked" by all countries that have an interest in it which includes Russian, USA, China, ect ect. This makes this whole story moot. You should KNOW it's being done, so why are you acting all surprised when someone writes a story about it?

Sorry, I'm from Ireland where the word muppet means idi0t, one that's unequivocal.

No, my apologies. I'm thinking Jim Henson as in Kermit the Frog or Cookie Monster type muppet. :) LOL

Same here. Especially on tech forums, acceptance of acts of war have become normal. You have people who will ignore everything our intelligence community has to offer in order to further their personal wishes.

This in many ways is the difference between Honesty and Loyalty.

In order to have an intelligence community, you do need intelligent people.
This is the great conundrum of US intelligence. How can you find people smart enough to develop technology that makes their incursions look like foreign attackers but also not dumb enough to let information about that technology leak to the public?

Gifted *****s for the foreseeable future.

What?
There has still not been 1 shred of proof, all we have are allegations, quite a few of which have already been debunked.
Nice for Techspot to declare themselves part of the fake news network though.
Calm down there, Sparky. Rob is the resident anti-Trump guy. Every news plaform that isn't alt-right is required by law to have one. He means well and is just doing his job.

Yeah reporting allegation as fact - better know as hacks.
At first it was said Russia hacked the voting system - that has been totally debunked. (yet reported as fact here - obscene)
Then it was alleged they hacked the grid - also totally debunked.
Then it was alleged that Assange worked for Putin - zero evidence and totally refuted by wikileaks who have also put out negative information on republicans.
Then it was alleged Hilary lost the election because of wikileaks revealing how criminal she was - nothing to do with the fact she is an actual verified criminal and ran an awful campaign.
Then after all that failed it was alleged that team Trump were Russian spies, again with zero evidence and using the public's ignorance on normal diplomatic affairs and meeting as a pretence there was this ridiculous conspiracy.
Then we had Comey making out Trump had made him drop the Russian investigation (which is still ongoing ffs) and asked him for total allegiance which he then totally went back on in his testimony.
This is just the deep state/ establishment and Democrats throwing **** and seeing what sticks because Trump is threatening their criminal empire.
And BTW, I will calm down once we are rid of every last globalist traitor and criminal is outed, not when some random guy tells me to on the net.

BTW, for the record I don't like Trump but not because I a lap up a diet of MSM fakenews like mothers milk.
I just happen to dislike the globalists and criminal scum in Washington and their lying puppets who dish out this propaganda a lot more.

Comrade: over 1000 less Dems are in office nationwide, as the People have woken up to the broken system and promises that the liberals try to entice them into. Eastern Europe and socialism? I think not.

This is because nothing else they threw against the wall ever stuck. The left "couldn't get their message out". They blamed the media--which they control. They blamed Comey. And then blamed Trump for letting Comey go. They blamed Russia. They blamed Wikileaks. They blamed the laptop. They blamed the people who caught her. They are now blaming...*gasp. The voters! But one thing is for sure: it is never. EVER. the left's fault.

What is terrifying is that Oblama suckered Americans into voting socialist. And hating cops. And accepting debt. And these nitwits want to suck on Uncle Sam like it's their mom's **ttie. If you do not understand history, you are doomed to repeat it. Republicans need to bring back the history books.

You know what? You're alright.

Comrade: over 1000 less Dems are in office nationwide, as the People have woken up to the broken system and promises that the liberals try to entice them into. Eastern Europe and socialism? I think not.
1,000s of instances of cheating enabled by Fox News, that's what that is. Democrats failing to hold seats is unpossible.

I have always enjoyed reading from leftists sources that they have "sources"...all unnamed. Of course.
They picked up a page from the Vatican's playbook. All they did was substitute "source" for "God" and "media" for "holy."

Vatican, 7th century: Only holy officials of the church, who have a direct dialogue with God, have authority to speak on matters of the Bible. To question this or attempt to translate His holy text into the common tongue so that it may be read by sinners is a heresy and you will be duly punished.

Media, today: Only the media, which has a direct dialogue with anonymous sources inside the governemnt, have the authority to speak on the veracity of matters concerning the state. To question this or attempt to unmask said sources so they may be evaluated by the common man is a heresy and you will be duly punished.

But don't take my word for it. Directly from the church CNN:
