Forward-looking: During Samsung's Foundry Forum 2022, the company revealed a roadmap for processor sizes within various Samsung devices. Samsung Foundry's presentation went in-depth regarding the next five years of the roadmap, giving enthusiasts a glimpse into the near future of mobile computing.

Samsung has long been one of the leading developers of semiconductors and processors, including being the first foundry to produce 3nm chips for its mobile devices. The company beat out its biggest rival, TSMC, to the 3nm node, certainly not a small feat even for such a large fabricator.

Every year, Samsung holds a Foundry Forum event, usually detailing plans and roadmaps for numerous Samsung devices and collaborations with other industries. One of the company's main focuses this year is the roadmap for its processors and subsequent node sizes. With rival TSMC revealing its hopes to have mass production of 2nm chips by the end of 2025, Samsung decided to present its roadmap up to 2027.

The roadmap states that Samsung plans to have an updated "2nd-gen" 3nm process node available in 2024. Samsung Foundry CEO Siyoung Choi claims that the updated 3nm process will feature 20 percent smaller transistors, allowing for better power efficiency in devices that use Samsung's processors.

Samsung plans to improve the design of its 2nm node slated for mass production in 2025. Its goal is to increase performance by moving power delivery to the backside of the processor. Intel expects to introduce a similar feature dubbed PowerVia to some of its processors by 2024.

The final update to the roadmap was the announcement of the upcoming 1.4nm node, expected to be available in 2027. It did not cover specific improvements for these chips. After all, we are talking about plans that are five years out and subject to change. However, seeing the size slowly inch closer to the even smaller picometer range is exciting.

Samsung expects over 50 percent of the demand for its processors to come from the automotive, HPC, IoT, and 5G markets. It currently produces 28nm eNVM chips for automotive clients but hopes to reduce this node size to 14nm eNVM soon and 8nm eNVM later.

All in all, it's a fascinating time to be a tech enthusiast as companies continue to push the boundaries of processing chips. Who will be the first to reach chip sizes in the picometer range? Only time will tell, but we're certainly excited to see.

1.4nm is f**ng awesome. All that power in a smaller size and less power hungry.
Best wishes to Samsung.

Nvidia will be sure to increase power as chip sizes continue to get smaller. Expect an entry level 1.2KW GPU from Nvidia by 2027.

I think the back lash for global warming will really start to kick in by then - on another 1 in 500 year hurricane , another 1 week with temperature not dropping under 100F/38C including at night

We're 30 years past when florida was originally supposed to be underwater, and when water and food shortages would cause WWIII.

Also, environmentalists dont care about power draw see EVS yadda yadda ece. It seems like every article about GPUs there's always someone going "muh climate change!" who is completely blind to the pushes by environmentalist groups worldwide.

It will never end, the climate minions have been thoroughly brainwashed by the elite. It's so bad that EVERYTHING in life is due to "climate change". A sign that the MSM, the rich and politicians have done a great job of fear mongering! The minions are willing to bow down to them, worship at the altar of climate and give them all the money they need so they can be "saved". It's utterly ridiculous.

Same fud put out all the time - show me one serious peer-reviewed study saying Florida will be under water.
Look at Pakistan - they will have famine without help from serve flooding.
Flooding is worse - crops rot in ground , top soil washed away .
Flooding and droughts have increased - What serious scientists said WW3?

Wars have been fought multiple times over water - some poster on TS gave that as an excuse for Russia to attack Ukraine - ie Ukraine stopping flow of water to Crimea from dam . The flow of water in rivers is controlled by international law to stop conflict and avert famine .

As for extreme environmentalists - you have my agreement there sometimes.
Sometimes you just need pragmatic solutions - solutions taken in isolation take are bad for environment - but compared to status quo they are diamonds .
Plus some environmentalists are scientifically bankrupt - ie go with feel good self-righteous junk.
Then you have absolutist - better Asia not get GE golden rice and have millions of kids have vitamin deficiency - and chronic poor health - yeah nature does Genetic Engineering every hour of the day - most attempts fail - but humans , plants have bacteria genes etc .

Al Gore did claim a lot of alarmist stuff - but he was right - if we made small changes over time from 40 years ago - We wouldn't even have notice much difference to daily life - and we would be 1% at most
Eg if Ships sailed 10% slower around ocean to save 30% emission - supply chain would have adapted - and you would get your TV , PS5 .

Anyway that battle is over - it's just the battle what will we do about it
