Samsung may not have brought its Galaxy S8 to Barcelona but the South Korean electronics maker still had plenty to showcase at Mobile World Congress including a revised version of its Gear VR headset.

The new entry-level virtual reality headset looks a lot like the model introduced for the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, The Verge highlights, as it also offers a 101-degree field of view and is compatible with USB Type-C and microUSB devices including the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the Note 5, the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

Developed in collaboration with Oculus, the standout feature of the refreshed Gear VR is without a doubt the Gear VR Controller.

This one-handed controller packs an accelerometer, gyrometer and magnetic sensors and features a touchpad and trigger as well as integrated home, volume and back buttons. In addition to boosting the level of immersion you’ll experience by being able to grab, take aim and fire within the virtual world, the wireless controller will also eliminate the need to reach up and interact with buttons directly on the headset.

Think of it as a less advanced version of Oculus’ own Touch motion controller.

Oculus and Samsung have more than 70 controller-compatible titles in development and plan to open up the Gear VR Controller SDK to developers in the coming weeks.

No word yet on pricing or when exactly you’ll be able to pick up the new headset and motion controller.

Don't break your neck trying to find that out for me, I won't be bothering with it.

I wonder how much they are going to sell the controller/wand for? If they don't sell it separately they would be dumb. Since there is millions of people with this version and the previous version of the gear vr. But Samsung would be dumb to charge over $40 bucks for it also. Since it just looks like half of a steam controller.
